Volleyball Spotlight: Wednesday, May 31, 2006 By Bob Heller Philadelphia, PA - Bob Heller, Sports Information Director/ Assistant Athletic Director at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, was one of 30 athletic media relations professionals to be named a regional honoree of the 2005-06 American Volleyball Coaches Association Grant Burger Media Award program, the AVCA announced today. Heller was the Women’s Division II Northeast Regional recipient of the Burger Award, presented for excellence in publicizing the sport of college volleyball. The USP women’s volleyball team posted a school record 19 victories in the 2005 season, reaching the championship game of the CACC Tournament. The Devils swept the CACC post season honors for the first time in school history with senior Emily Roth earning Player of the Year honors, freshman Claire Tauschek earning the CACC Newcomer of the Year Award and Head Coach Mike Sinesi recognized as the CACC Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. Roth also was an honorable mention selection on the AVCA All-Northeast Region Team. Heller has been a media relations professional for 12 years, including the last nine at University of the Sciences. He is the university’s first full-time time sports information director. Heller also worked for the Philadelphia 76ers and Drexel University prior to his arrival at USP. Jen Armson, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Penn State University was the national winner of the AVCA Grant Burger Media Award. Tom Collett of the Florida Radio Network was honored in the broadcast category, Cindy Luis of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin was recognized in the print category and Michael Murphy (www.walthamvolleyball.com) was selected for the web category.
