Deptford Finds a Way to Protect Home Field Saturday, October 22, 2005 By Jerome Michaels The way this game started out, it looked as if the Spartans from Deptford would be victims of Gloucester Catholic’s controlled running game. The Rams held onto the football during the game’s opening drive for just about all of the first quarter. Deptford’s bend don’t break defense would be able to dig their cleats deep into the mud and prevent the Rams from scoring on that drive. Both teams would score second quarter touchdowns, but it wasn’t until the second half that halfback Ryan Leafey scored his second and third rushing touchdowns of the game and pull away from Gloucester Catholic. Deptford would pick up their fifth victory of the season with their 28-13 victory over the Rams. |

Winslow Twp. Passes the Must Win Test Saturday, October 22, 2005 By Jason Brown If you were to take a closer look at the number of teams still with a chance of making the playoffs, it would be a clear indication that every game is a must win for those teams down the stretch. Every player on the football team must find a way to play their hardest and smartest in order to come away with the victory for the team. Winslow Township’s Gawain Bragg demonstrated that urgency on the field against Woodrow Wilson Saturday afternoon. With the rain causing the field conditions to be a bit difficult to maneuver, Bragg would find his footing and was just one of many players coming through with the big plays for his team. Winslow Township would pull away from the Tigers in the second half and pick up the Homecoming victory 20-6. |

Bishop Eustace Hustles to Stay On Top Wednesday, October 19, 2005 By Jason Brown The divisional battles are always very interesting as the season gets closer and closer to their final games. That’s usually the time that division titles are claimed adding a representation of their hard work to their school’s trophy case. It’s also that time that teams are working hard on the soccer field looking for that one opportunity to score a goal. Camden Catholic and Bishop Eustace were competing in an Olympic Conference National Division game that the Crusaders needed to win. Seneca were right on their heels in the standings, but the Irish were first on their minds. Two first half goals by Bishop Eustace was enough to hold off Camden Catholic by a 2-1 margin. |

Delran Wins the Battle of the Undefeated Tuesday, October 18, 2005 By Jerome Michaels It was a perfect day to hang outdoors and enjoy the wonderful weather we were having in the month of October. There were quite a few people doing just that in Delran watching two very closely matched boy's soccer teams compete in a Burlington County League game. The Bears from Delran were hosting Rancocas Valley and would play out to be an important game for both teams. After the first half had ended in a scoreless tie, Delran would score the only goal of the game when leading scorer Tommy Orr deposited the ball into the net. With the home crowd still buzzing with jubilance, Orr would suffer a leg injured that kept him out of the game. Delran would remain undefeated winning its eleventh game of the season. |

The Lady Vikings from Eastern was that team taking on the competition’s quest to see what it takes to defeat a highly ranked field hockey team. Cherokee would be next in line looking to pick up an important win with the cutoff date to make it to the playoffs only days away.
