High School Football: Saturday, September 18, 2004 By Gregory "Graig" White On a day when the Overbrook High School Rams played against the Salem High School Rams, this headline wouldn't go wrong. But on a day that saw both teams compete for every inch of the field, the headline just doesn't tell the story. Salem playing without one of its biggest guns Lamont Robinson, who is on the road to recovery from an auto accident suffered over the summer, had to find a way to replace all that he brings to the team. Coach Lindenmuth didn't find one replacement, he found a group of guys who were fully prepared to step up and accept the challenge that not having Robinson in the lineup presented. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 18, 2004 By Jerome Michaels With the threat of heavy rain resulting from tropical storms, there were some doubts of whether or not the outdoor activities would have to be postponed. Well the area did receive rain, but not enough to stop Kingsway from traveling to Deptford in a Tri-County Conference competition. The Spartans, South Jersey Group III defending champs, took advantage of their opportunities scoring twice in the first half and score enough points to pick up the victory against Kingsway. Deptford went on to defeat Kingsway by a 28-8 margin. |
High School Football: Friday, September 17, 2004 By Jason Brown As the South Jersey high school football season begins its second week of competition, there are some teams that have taken full advantage by winning their first two games. And of course, other teams have gotten a slow start to their season by coming up short. It’s not the end of the season for both of those situations, but it is nice to have a 2-0 record with a short season. Pemberton traveled to Seneca to participate in the Golden Eagles first home varsity game and recorded a 28-0 victory behind the play of Lester Goffney. |

Team Conditioning Systems: Thursday, September 16, 2004 By Gregory "Graig" White I would like to first start off by saying thanks to all of the people who have taken the time to e-mail me questions pertaining to performance enhancement. Some of them are well thought out and are thought provoking. With that being said there is an issue I need help understanding, and I am bringing that issue to you, the reader, with the hope that you can help me make sense of it. More often than not, the questions I am getting are asking "how can I get stronger faster?" "What's the quickest way to lose 50 lbs?" "I need to get my 40 time faster how can I do this in as little time as possible?" My question is this, why does everything have to happen so quickly? What ever happened to the days when athletes were prepared to come into the weightroom and do what was needed to get the results they wanted? In this day and age of instant gratification the life and job of the strength coach has taken on new challenges, or has it? |
