South Jersey Baseball: Friday, September 17, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf fell to the Camden Riversharks 5-2 Friday night at Sandcastle Stadium. The win clinched the South Division second half title, which means the two teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs. Surf starter Andy Zwirchitz took the loss, his third against the Riversharks, as he lasted four and a third. He surrendered five runs on six hits. Carlos Adolfo went deep for the Surf and Ben Candelaria drove in the other Surf run with one of his two hits on the night. Riversharks starter Brett Laxton evened his record at eight with the win. He pitched seven innings allowing two runs on five hits. Joe Strong earned the save, his fifteenth, for his scoreless ninth. Chris Widger hit his sixteenth homerun, a three run shot in the first, and Ryan Jones drove in two more with a double in the fifth. The teams play again tomorrow night at 6:35pm as it is Fan Appreciation Night at the Sandcastle Fans will have a chance to warm up the left fielder, announce over the PA system, and win a suite for the playoffs. The Surf will send Rob Corrado (5-6) to the hill. |
