South Jersey Baseball: Sunday, August 8, 2004 By Forrest Robleto It looked like the Sharks were going to extend their losing streak to five games but the Ducks gave them an inch and the Sharks took a mile. After falling behind 1-0 in the second then tying the score in the third and falling behind again in the fourth, the Ducks gave the Riversharks their chance when Tony Rodriguez picked up a ground ball and threw it into right field. This was the inch that allowed the Sharks their mile. Quincy Foster who was on second base trotted home for the tie. Camden’s Troy Cameron smacked a fastball out of the park scoring two runs to put the game away. |
South Jersey Football: Friday, August 6, 2004 By Marty Cross The Camden Lynx will travel on the road two weeks in a row before getting a bye week. The first stop is in Hyattsville, Maryland tomorrow to face the Maryland Marauders at 5:00 pm in an Eastern Division matchup. The Lynx (3-0, 4-0) are tied for first place with the Philadelphia Scorpions (3-0, 5-0) in the NAFL - Northeast Region - Eastern Division. The Marauders (2-0, 2-1) are third and also undefeated in the conference. Since the next opponent for the Lynx will be the Scorpions, the division standings should begin to show a front runner. |
South Jersey Baseball: Friday, August 6, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf announced today that the contract of RHP Conor Brooks has been purchased by the Boston Red Sox organization. Brooks, who led the Atlantic League in saves with 16, will report to the Class AA Portland (ME) Sea Dogs of the Eastern League. Brooks has been a key part of the Surf success this season. In 30 appearances, he is 1-2 with a 4.06 ERA. His 16 saves came in 19 opportunities, with about in a row. This marks the ninth player the Surf have sent back to affiliated baseball this season. Brooks will be joining Mike Lopez-Cao, the All-Star catcher from the Nashua Pride recently acquired by the Red Sox and sent to Portland. |
South Jersey Baseball: Friday, August 6, 2004 By Don Delaney Justin Davies and Pat Lennon each had three hits and scored one run to lead the Long Island Ducks past the Camden Riversharks, 8-4, in the series opener of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field on Friday night. It was the third straight loss the Riversharks who scored four runs on just five hits. The Riversharks were able to pull even at 4-4 after seven inning, but the Ducks scored four times in the final two innings to pull away with the win. |

South Jersey Baseball: Tuesday, August 3, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf are proud to announce that Surf outfielder Ozzie Timmons and pitcher Archie Corbin were named the Atlantic League Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for the month of July. It is the first time in Surf history that the team has received both the Player and the Pitcher of the Month in the same month. The Surf went 17-9 in the month of July and the big month from both players helped the Surf clinch the first half southern division title in early July and jump out to a hot start at the beginning of the second half of the season. |
South Jersey Baseball: Monday, August 2, 2004 By Don Delaney Quincy Foster delivered Stoney Briggs with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Camden Riversharks finished a nine-game homestand with a 2-1 win over the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at Campbell’s Field on Monday night. One night before heading on a critical three-game road trip at Somerset, the Riversharks tallied just five hits, but chipped away with a Troy Cameron sixth inning home run to win their eighth game of the second half. |
South Jersey Baseball: Monday, August 2, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf fell to the Nashua Pride 3-2 in the second game of their doubleheader Monday afternoon at Sandcastle Stadium. The Surf won the first game in eight innings, 4-2. The Surf won the first game in dramatic fashion with a game tying homerun in the seventh by Dario Delgado and then a walk-off two-run blast by third baseman Raul Marval. Starter Kyle Goldwater went five and two-thirds, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out four. Reliever Alberto Castillo recorded the win for inducing a ground out by the one batter he faced. |
South Jersey Baseball: Monday, August 2, 2004 By Bill Cook The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, and the Eastern League announced today that Trenton Thunder RHP Justin Pope has been named the Eastern League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 1st. Pope, a native of Lake Worth, Florida, went 1-0 with 10 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA for the Thunder last week. In his first and only start of the week, the 24-year old struck out 10 batters and walked only one while tossing a complete game one-hitter against the Norwich Navigators at Waterfront Park. |
