Davis allowed just one run on three hits. He struck out five and retired 22 of the last 23 Ducks he faced on his way to his first victory of the season. |
Arena Football: Saturday, June 12, 2004 By Matthew Gionta The CardSharks defeated the Fort Wayne Freedom 41-27 at Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, June 12. The ‘Sharks, winners of five out of their last six and three in a row, improve to 6-5 on the season. The Freedom (6-6) now trails the expansion CardSharks by ½ game in the Atlantic Conference Playoff standings. The game was decided in the air, as Atlantic City threw the ball effectively and came up with a four interceptions to stop the Freedom. |
South Jersey Baseball: Saturday, June 12, 2004 By Don Delaney The Camden Riversharks used a four-run seventh inning to push past the Nashua Pride, 6-4, in the opener of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field on Saturday night. Trailing 4-2 heading into the home half of the seventh inning, the Riversharks sent 10 batter to the plate and used RBI-singles from Kevin Jordan, Dwight Maness and Travis Anderson to take the lead for good. |
Roller Hockey Spotlight: Saturday, June 12, 2004 By Dick Creek The Junior Team USA for Inline Roller Hockey was selected at the USA Roller Sports selection camp in Wixom, MI on May 2, 2004. Among the athletes chosen for this team was our own 17-year old Jess Creek who will be one of the two goalies to compete for the starting job. Jesse has worked hard to make it this far and, as you may also know, has overcome a serious injury that made him miss an entire season two summers ago. |
South Jersey Baseball: Saturday, June 12, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Surf scored three runs in the tenth inning last night to down the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-3 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Atlantic City entered the game looking to avoid their first sweep of the year and jumped on Bluefish starter Tim Cain in the third inning. Raul Marval doubled with the bases loaded, driving in Gary Johnson and Melvin Rosario. "Meatball" Heath would later cross the plate on a wild pitch and the Surf had a 3-0 lead. |

South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, June 10, 2004 By Chuck Betson For the second straight night the Bridgeport Bluefish downed the Atlantic City Surf at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, tonight by a score of 9-4. Ozzie Timmons doubled home Raul Marval in the fourth inning, but the Bluefish got three back in the bottom of the frame. The Bluefish got three more in the sixth and then again in the eighth to put the game away. |
Arena Football: Thursday, June 10, 2004 By Matthew Gionta The CardSharks and the Fort Wayne Freedom will meet Saturday night in Historic Boardwalk Hall at 7:30 PM. Both teams are very much alive for a playoff spot in the tight Atlantic Conference. The teams are separated by just a ½ game coming into the match up, with Fort Wayne coming out on top 63-54 in the first meeting. The ‘Sharks, coming off a season sweep of the Evansville Blue Cats, played stellar defense en route to a 31-27 victory last week at Boardwalk Hall. The Freedom lost to the defending champion Ohio Valley Greyhounds last week, 52-23. |
Ice Hockey Spotlight: Wednesday, June 9, 2004 By Al Cohen SPRINGFIELD, Mass./ST. CATHARINES, Ont. ... The American Hockey League and the Professional Hockey Players' Association today announced the extension of the AHL-PHPA Collective Bargaining Agreement through August 31, 2007. The two-year extension of the existing CBA has been ratified by both the AHL's Board of Governors and an overwhelming majority of AHL players. The agreement provides for increased contributions towards health and welfare benefits, as well as amendments which increase licensing fees to the PHPA while providing enhanced player likeness rights to the AHL. |
South Jersey Baseball: Wednesday, June 9, 2004 By Chuck Betson Atlantic City had their seven-game winning streak snapped tonight as the Bridgeport Bluefish downed the Surf 10-5. Jamie Gann got the first of his three hits with two outs in the first inning to drive in former Surf Will Pennyfeather. The Surf answered with single tallies in the third and fourth, but in the bottom of the fourth Eddie Lara hit a three-run home run over the right field fence that put the Surf down 4-2. A Ryan Minor solo home run made it 4-3, but the Surf would get no closer. Ozzie Timmons would hit his seventh home run of the season in the ninth inning, but it would be too little too late. |
South Jersey Baseball: Tuesday, June 8, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf continued their hot play at home as they defeated the Long Island Ducks, 6-5, at The Sandcastle on Tuesday afternoon. The Surf won their ninth straight home game and seventh straight overall in front of 3,324 fans, mostly school kids on School Special Day. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth by Surf catcher Melvin Rosario scored center fielder Gary Johnson and gave the Surf their third walk-off win in their last four games. Left fielder Ozzie Timmons hit a two-run homerun, his sixth of the season, to tie the game at five in the bottom of the eighth. |
Ice Hockey Spotlight: Tuesday, June 8, 2004 By Al Cohen Former Phantoms forward Ruslan Fedotenko played a key role in the Tampa Bay Lightning capturing the Stanley Cup. The 25-year-old recorded 14 points (12G, 2A) in 22 playoff games, including both goals in Tampa Bay's 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames in Game Seven on June 7. Fedotenko finished tied for second in the NHL in postseason goals, while adding five power-play goals and three game-winners. |
South Jersey Baseball: Monday, June 7, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf made it six wins in a row Monday night as they defeated the Long Island Ducks at The Sandcastle, 5-4. The Surf are now 18-12 after beating Ducks' starter Bill Pulsipher. Pulsipher was the Atlantic League leader in wins and ERA entering the game. However, after center fielder Kimera Bartee led off the game with his sixth homerun of the season, the Surf scored the next three runs. In the bottom of the first, Surf second baseman Demetrius Heath stole his league leading sixteenth base after the first of two hits on the night. He ended up scoring on a wild pitch. Atlantic City first baseman Ryan Minor also had two hits on the night, including a two-run double in the bottom of the third. |
