South Jersey Baseball: Wednesday, June 9, 2004 By Chuck Betson Atlantic City had their seven-game winning streak snapped tonight as the Bridgeport Bluefish downed the Surf 10-5. Jamie Gann got the first of his three hits with two outs in the first inning to drive in former Surf Will Pennyfeather. The Surf answered with single tallies in the third and fourth, but in the bottom of the fourth Eddie Lara hit a three-run home run over the right field fence that put the Surf down 4-2. A Ryan Minor solo home run made it 4-3, but the Surf would get no closer. Ozzie Timmons would hit his seventh home run of the season in the ninth inning, but it would be too little too late. Kevin Henthorne got the win going seven innings for Bridgeport, giving up three earned runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out three batters. He improves his record to 5-0. Marty Barnett took the loss tonight and his record will go to 2-2. The Surf will try to start a new winning streak tomorrow night when they send Andy Zwirchitz to the hill to take on Brad Cornett. First pitch is set for 7:05 and you can catch all the action with Mike Wolverton on 1490, The Game. |
