By Gregory "Graig" White
SJSports Physical Fitness Advisor

I don't practice Yoga, so let's get this out of the way, but if I did this book would be a great place to start. "Hatha Yoga Illustrated" could have also been called "Yoga for Dummies". The writers of this book went out of their way to keep things as simple as they could so that everyone who picked up the book would be able to understand it.

Cherry Hill West and Collingswood End In A Tie

Saturday, April 17, 2004

By Joyce Sagerty
SJSports Special Correspondent

It was only their second game on their schedule and maybe it was a sign of good things to come. For the Lady Cougars from Cherry Hill West, seeing Eastern and Collingswood as their first two games of their season had to be a bit intimidating. Eastern had made it to the semi-finals of the South A playoffs last year while Collingswood had captured the Olympic Conference National Division title. For West, none of that mattered as they stumbled against Eastern but rallied against Collingswood. The Cougars battled to an impressive 10-10 deadlock that proved to be a small victory for Cherry Hill West.

Haddonfield Wins Pitchers' Duel at Audubon

Friday, April 16, 2004

By Susan Hall
SJSports Special Correspondent

It was one of those games that opposing batters are left frustrated after they were unsuccessful at the plate. It was also one of those games that the pitchers love hearing or seeing that third strike called keeping runners off the base. The Bulldogs from Haddonfield sent Therese Taraschi on the mound to face Kiersten Hughes from Audubon. Both pitchers limited the hits in this game as this Colonial Conference teams were battling to stay ahead of the pack. Haddonfield would come up with that illusive run in the eighth inning to down Audubon by a 2-1 margin.

West Shuts Out East with Voiro on the Mound

Friday, April 16, 2004

By Vincent Lewis
SJSports Staff Writer

There are those who believe that winning a game all starts with that person who stands on the mound tossing the baseball across the plate for a strike. When two cross city rivals met on the diamond, it would be Joe Voiro who came up with the big pitches for Cherry Hill West limiting Cherry Hill East’s chances of scoring. The Cougars would rally around their starting pitcher manufacturing the first 2 runs of the game during the first inning of an Olympic Conference game played at East. After a seven full innings were completed, Voiro would be rewarded with an 8-0 victory giving West their third victory of the young season.

Devils Avenge Last Year's Loss to Cougars

Friday, April 16, 2004

By Bob Heller
USIP Sports Information Director

Last year, the Caldwell men's tennis team walked off the court against the Devils after securing enough points to win the match and defaulted in their final four contests on the afternoon. This year, it was a different story as the USP men's tennis team was not going to let that happen again. This time the Devils got the five wins necessary to win the match, and stayed to complete the match, winning by a final score of 5-3.

Paul VI Looking to Turn Things around Early On

Thursday, April 15, 2004

By Crystal Parker
SJSports Staff Writer

When looking at a way to find out how a team is performing, the best place to go is your team's divisional standings. But before you take a peak, deep down your team feels they could do better as they have loss a game or two that they should have won. So far this season, no team has really established themselves as the leaders of the Olympic Conference National Division. Two of those teams met on the softball field at Bishop Eustace Prep. The Lady Eagles from Paul VI would use a big first inning and held on to defeat the Crusaders by a 5-1 margin.

Triton Wastes Little Time Deciding Outcome

Thursday, April 15, 2004

By Susan Hall
SJSports Special Correspondent

Most players want to know a few things about their opponent before stepping up to the plate to face the opposing team. That's the sign of a good coaching staff and player in preparing themselves to have a successful day at the plate and on the field. When the Mustangs from Triton hosted Sterling in a non-league softball game, it would seem as if they were well prepared to take on the Lady Knights. Scoring four runs in the first and second inning, Triton eight run lead would just the start of their 11-1 victory.

Play Time is Over

Thursday, April 15, 2004

By Gregory "Graig" White

Basketball season for the most part is now over, and now it's time for athletes who are serious about getting better to start paying their dues. Very rarely do you see an athlete get better during the season, improvement often comes in the off season when you have time to work on aspects of your game that sometimes get overlooked during the season. I always find it funny that coaches will copy a training protocol off of the Internet, tape it to a wall in the weight training facility, and expect their athletes to get better from it.

Monday, April 12, 2004

By Mike Ballard
RutgersCamden Sports Correspondent

A 6-0 no-hitter against Swarthmore College April 8, in which she missed a perfect game on the last batter, was the highlight of a sensational week for Michelle Schlichtig, who struck out 17 in hurling the eighth no-hitter in program history. The lone batter to reach base came on a two-out error in the seventh inning. Schlichtig also won both ends of a doubleheader at Kean University April 10, including an 8-0 shutout, and finished her week with a 3-1 record and only one earned run allowed in 27 innings (0.26 ERA). She struck out 40 and walked only one. She also hit .471 (8-for-17) during the week.
