Event Spotlight: Sunday, October 6, 2002 By David W. Unkle Emotion play a major role in a player's performance; not enough emotion and the result is a lackluster performance. Too much emotion creates misplays and mental lapses and the emotion was running high as the Kixx had their MISL Championship banner raised to the rafters of the First Union Spectrum in a pre-game ceremony and the players received their championship rings. The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Philadelphia Kixx learned some hard lessons about emotion in their first two games as defending champions. |
High School Football: Saturday, October 5, 2002 By Charlie Barker After two tough losses on the road against Shawnee and Moorestown, the Willingboro Chimeras were hoping to get back on track at home versus Cherokee. The two Burlington County teams hadn't played each other since 1999. But after a strong showing by Cherokee in the second half for a 38-13 win, the Chimeras are probably hoping an equal amount of time goes by before they see the Chiefs again. |
High School Football: Saturday, October 5, 2002 By Art Redd With the merger of the Burlington County League and the Olympic Conferences, the football season has already established new rivalries for South Jersey sports fans to enjoy. Let's take today's matchup between the Tigers from Woodrow Wilson traveling to Delran to battle the Lancers from Holy Cross. This game had been marked on everyone's calendar to watch these two teams compete in the newly formed Olympic Conference Liberty Division. The Lancers would lead the entire game, as the offense was able to put points on the scoreboard against a good defense. Runningback Chris Haslon crossed the goal line four times and rushed for 203 yards leading Holy Cross to a 49-26 win over Woodrow Wilson. |
High School Football: Friday, October 4, 2002 By Graig White On a night that saw a close up battle until the opening kickoff, Salem put on a display that could only be described as dominate with a capital "D". The defense, for the second week in a row, kept their opponents out of the endzone, saw an offense that rang up 397 yards on the ground and gave anyone cheering for the Blue and White plenty to cheer about. |
High School Football: Friday, October 4, 2002 By Art Redd When a team is faced with a football program that is known to have an offense with a great deal of speed, you must rely on your defense to at least keep the game close. That's exactly what the Washington Township defense did against the dangerous Eagles from Winslow Township. The Minutemen came up big when needed as they not only kept the game close, but also prevented Winslow from getting any points on the scoreboard. The Minutemen fought their way to a 14-0 victory over the Eagles in an Olympic Conference American Division contest. |

Today, Bill Prinz was in the right place at the right time to score the lone goal half way through the first half to give West Deptford (4-2-2) the victory over their Colonial Conference Liberty Division opponents. |
