Haddon Heights and Cherokee competed in a non-league boy's soccer match-up this afternoon. At the end of regulation, both teams worked hard tying this game at two goals apiece. But it seemed as if the Garnets wanted it more as Phil Sobolewski found the back of the net what proved to be the winning goal in overtime. Tim Garvin added one more goal to give Cherokee their second loss in a row. Haddon Heights (6-1-0) won the game 4-2.
After starting the season with four road games and a 3-1 record, Haddon Heights would enjoy the next five games being played at their home field. The Garnets would win the first two games at Haddon Heights defeating Gateway (2-1) and West Deptford (3-2). Today, the Chiefs from Cherokee were visiting with a 4-2 record in the Olympic Conference and trying to shake off their 1-0 lost to Cherry Hill East.
Tim Garvin and Lou Dollarton gave Haddon Heights their first two goals of the game. Rob Gambino got the Chiefs on the scoreboard and tied the game just over 27 minutes remaining in the game. Sobolewski put Haddon Heights in front with just over four minutes left in the first overtime period. Garvin's goal in the final extra period finished the scoring in the game.
