The game was in doubt right up to the final seconds, as West's goalie John Lynch made a tremendous save on a penalty shot with just twenty-two seconds remaining in the contest.

Franklin & Marshall beat Rutgers-Camden 4-1 in a college hockey game played at the Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. Unable to generate much offense and being out-shot by F & M 42-20, Rutgers fell behind in the first two minutes and never recovered. Casey Fogety scored on the power play with Dave Dymnicki assisting and F & M led 1-0. Stuart Tenney made it 2-0 in the closing minutes of the period. In past games, Rutgers has rallied from larger deficits but not today, as any scoring chances were turned away by goalie Tim Crawl.

Mike Wanton and Mike Dandurand tallied two goals each to pace the Triton attack. Alex Vasserman had three goals and two assists to pace West. Wanton scored just over two minutes into the game to give Triton the 1-0 lead, with Ed Skomsky getting the assist. Ninety seconds later Bud Flick made it 2-0 and it seemed as if the rout was on, however, with West on the power play Vasserman cut the lead in half as he scored unassisted.

Five different players scored for Clearview as they shut out Shawnee 5-0 and remain undefeated in a SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday night. After a scoreless first period, Gunnar Fox scored with John Meenan assisting with just about three minutes left in the second period, which was dominated by Clearview as they out-shot Shawnee 18-1. If not for the strong play of net minder Charlie Rodrigo, the score could have been worse.

If you first don't succeed, well, you know the rest of the saying. That's what the Eastern field hockey team was determined to do, finally defeat their nemesis, the Shawnee Renegades. These two teams faced off at Highland High School in a Group 4 state semifinal game. It was Sarah Dawson's determination that scored the winning goal in overtime to advance Eastern into the finals. Dawson's goal with 44-seconds remaining in overtime not only won the game for the Vikings, but also was a birthday gift to herself.

Eastern rallied from two goals down with nine minutes left in the game to salvage a 5-5 tie with Washington Township in a match-up of two of the top three teams in the league. Mike Becker gave the Vikings the early 1-0 lead scoring an unassisted goal three minutes into the game. Three minutes later, Joe Pelle had a breakaway.
