South Jersey Ice Hockey: Saturday, November 20, 1999
By Mike Costantino Franklin & Marshall beat Rutgers-Camden 4-1 in a college hockey game played at the Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. Unable to generate much offense and being out-shot by F & M 42-20, Rutgers fell behind in the first two minutes and never recovered. Casey Fogety scored on the power play with Dave Dymnicki assisting and F & M led 1-0. Stuart Tenney made it 2-0 in the closing minutes of the period. In past games, Rutgers has rallied from larger deficits but not today, as any scoring chances were turned away by goalie Tim Crawl. When Joe Baird scored his first goal of the season in the first two minutes of the second period to make it 3-0, that seemed to deflate Rutgers. Although that was the only score in the period, F & M would carry the play. The solid play of goalie Bill Douglas kept Rutgers close. But after being out-shot 16-5 in the period, they headed into the final period trailing 3-0. After scoring a short-handed goal to lead 4- 0 with just under four minutes left in the game, the only outcome in doubt was whether Crawl would get the shutout. But with just forty-one ticks left on the clock, Jason Montagna scored on a breakaway and Rutgers avoided the shut out but still suffered a 4-1 loss. Photos by Boog Williams
