High School Ice Hockey: Sunday, November 21, 1999
By Brian Weinstein Cherry Hill West's upstart JVB ice hockey team provided another boost to its program by defeating Holy Cross 3-2 in a highly competitive and cleanly played SJHSIHL game last Sunday at the Twin Rinks in Pennsauken. The game was in doubt right up to the final seconds, as West's goalie John Lynch made a tremendous save on a penalty shot with just twenty-two seconds remaining in the contest. Despite having an unprecedented ten players from Cherry Hill Middle Schools making up the bulk of its roster, the Lions have earned a 4-1-2 record and, thus far, appear to be a legitimate challenger for the top spot in the JVB division. Though small in team size, West has relied on strong skating skills and positional play to compete against its larger and older foes. West's next game will be against the JVB's top team, Cherokee, at 5:45 pm on December 5th at the Coliseum. Holy Cross will next play Shawnee at 5:45 pm on November 28th at the Coliseum.
