With SAT's on Saturday, most sporting events in High School sports were rescheduled to start in the afternoon. This game had Haddonfield at Delsea at 3 p.m. It was an overcast day and proved to be a very physical game. Both teams were given yellow cards and plenty of restarts. With one minute left in the second half, Haddonfield scored off of a restart to win the game 1-0.

Today's lesson of the day was to study hard and you will succeed in life. Most of South Jersey's High Schools were busy taking the Scholastic Achievement Test this morning and pushed those classic football battles into the afternoon. It seemed as if Highland did their homework on their opponents as they were in control the whole game. The Tartans eliminated all of the Edgewood Eagles' strengths and went on to a 24-9 Olympic Conference Patriot Division victory.

Highland Regional power running back Brant Tyson rushed for 150 yards on 8 carries and scored a touchdown to lead the attack against the Eagles of Edgewood. On Highland's second possession, Highland's QB connected with WR Andrew Frazier for a 40 yard gain. On the next play, he found an open receiver that took the ball down to the Eagles 3-yard line. The drive was capped by a 1 yard run by fullback Alto Saba.

These are dark days indeed for the Cherokee faithful. Not since the dark ages when the Rheumatic fever ran amuck, or the crash of Wall Street, or somebody grabbing that last burger off of the grill, have things looked so bleak for the Cherokee Chiefs. On the other hand, the newly ranked and well-deserved Eastern Vikings put on a dazzling display of football to showcase their success. Eastern dominated the Chiefs, here in Evesham, by notching their forth victory of the year with a powerful 49-7 victory.

The last two Fridays, I've covered Freshmen Football. These players and coaches put in a lot of time and don't get any coverage. This Friday, I traveled to Eastern to see their Freshmen play Cherokee. Cherokee won the game by the score of 31 - 14. The game was closer than the score suggests.

Cherry Hill East girls easily handled Edgewood 5-1, but the better story was the 27 saves that Denise Prosser and Jennifer Clay made as the Cougars put 32 shots on the Edgewood net, most of them tough ones. At the other end Carolyn Snyder, who played the first half for Cherry Hill, didn't see the ball at all and Emily Brenner who played the second half with most of East's starters out, faced only five shots.

On a beautiful day to play any sport, the Edgewood Eagles and Cherry Hill East Cougars matched off in an Olympic Conference soccer match at Edgewood Regional High School. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Eagles rebounded and scored with 28 seconds left in the game to tie highly ranked Cherry Hill East.

Things are looking up for the Overbrook Boys Soccer team this year. After a tough season last year the Rams could only improve upon their 3-13-2 record. After nine games, the Rams are already 3-4-2, with three of their losses to the #1, #2 and #3 teams in South Jersey (Shawnee, Cherokee and Cherry Hill East). The only loss that really hurt was their 3-2 loss in overtime at home to Cherry Hill West (also a contender for the conference).

Mike Gooch notched a hat trick to lead Clearview over defending champion Eastern 7-5 in the league opener at the Coliseum on Monday night. With Eastern scoring the first two goals, one short-handed by Mike Cianfrani and a power-play goal by John Schellenhammer the defending champs picked up where they left off last year but Clearview would score the next 5 goals. After Gooch's second goal tied the score at the end of the first period, Ryan Arnold scored early in the second period to give Clearview a lead it would not relinquish.
