High School Football: Saturday, June 26, 1999

Football is still alive even during the summer months when the 9th Annual Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey Flame Bowl All-Star Football game took place on Saturday at Rowan University. The Flame Bowl consisted of the Red Team, made up of players from Burlington and Cape-Atlantic Counties, while the Black Team was made up from players from Camden County, Colonial and Tri-County Conferences. After a slow start by the Red Team, 23 unanswered points was enough to defeat the Black Team 23-12.

On Friday, June 25, TBAA traveled to Pennsauken for the first of a home and home weekend series in the SJGSA Junior American Division. Each team scored 1 run in the first. TBAA scored 4 in the second on 2 errors and 2 singles. Pennsauken answered with 4 of their own runs in the bottom of the second. The big hit was a 2-run single by Kerry Hanson. pennsauken broke it open with 4 runs in the third and 4 more in the fifth. Pennsauken won 11-7. Jessica Martino pitched 5 strong innings for her fourth win of the season. Christina Tofani struck-out 4 in 2 innings of relief. Stephanie Sylvia was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Ashley Keich had 3 RBIs.

Stratford traveled to Waterford Twp. to open their best-of-three SJGSA playoff series Friday night. Good pitching from both teams kept the score close. A three-run 3rd inning would clinch it for Waterford, allowing them to pull away with the 5-3 victory.

Haddon Heights traveled to Berlin Township Tuesday night and defeated Berlin Twp. 11-1 in SJGSA league play. Haddon Heights took an early lead in the first inning scoring one run. Berlin Twp. answered in the second inning when Lauren Buscemi scored on a walk by Erin Tideman with bases loaded.
