Needless to say, the fans of the game responded to his exciting new style of home run baseball, as attendance and national interest in the game skyrocketed.

Whenever a school has a successful baseball program, teams are either intimidated by their accomplishments or ready to prove that they can compete. Millville traveled to Cherry Hill East High School ready to play baseball and put the mornings SATs behind them. Millville was very impressive holding East in check throughout most of the game, but good teams find ways to win. Cherry Hill East used every at bat and scored in the last inning to gain a come from behind victory to defeat Millville 6-5 in a non-league game.

Williamstown pitcher Wayne Bumm seemed to get hotter as the night air got colder. He overcame some early difficulties on his way to a complete game win over the West Deptford Eagles, under the lights at Union Field in the first round of the Minuteman Tournament. Bumm was a little wild early on, but settled down for 11 strikeouts versus only two walks in the 12-6 victory. At 5'4", and just over 100 pounds, she's not what one would imagine as an aggressive and competitive athlete. But Justine Palogruto describes herself as a "brute" on the soccer field, and she's not giggling when she says it. She's been playing since she was about 12 and loves to learn new skills in the game. Justine plays soccer with 100% heart for herself and her team.

On Friday afternoon, the young Collingswood Panthers boy's volleyball team hosted the Pennsauken Tech Tornadoes. The short season gives either team little time to qualify for the state tournament. Both coaches wanted to gain the early edge in the first game by making sure their players were ready for anything. The intensity was present when each coach voiced their opinion on how the game was being called by the referee. After the smoke cleared, Joe Gillespie's Panthers defeated Tech in 3 games.
