The meet started off with excitement and ended with excitement. The first match, at weight class 103, had Overbrook's Frank Frochlick pin Edgewood's Stephon Tompson with 57 seconds left in the first period to give Overbrook a 6-0 lead. At 112, Gary DeBridle (O) won by forfeit to make the score 12-0. At 119, Ryan Saunders (O) pinned David Casaboon (E) to make the score 18-0. At 125, Jeff Mullen (E) scored a 14 - 2 win over George Larsen to make the score 18-4.

The Big Guy, Dave Webb took the heavy weight division over John Ashton as Shawnee took top honors at the Pine Barrens Classic on Saturday. Doug Easlick took a minute four to pin his Egg Harbor opponent Alex Martinez to pass his older brother's win record at Cherokee.

Team Conditioning Systems: Friday, December 18, 1998

Juan C. Vazquez will be 18 years old this month and is a senior at Camden Catholic High School. Juan keeps fit and works on strength and tone with the Team Conditioning Systems (TCS) program. Graig White is one of Juan's influential figures in his training and development. He finds that many respect and admire Graig as a person and trainer.

For Camden High School, the biggest question was whether top-scorer Dajuan Wagner would remain at Camden. Once rumored to be transferring to the Panthers' conference rival Camden Catholic, Wagner remained at Camden for his sophomore year. The Cherokee Chiefs hosted this Olympic Conference openining season game on the losing end. Camden had little problem starting the season off with a 67-35 victory.

The Minutemen from Washington Township began their '98-99 season at home by routing the Highland Tartans 58-20 in a varsity basketball game played on Friday night. It was a meeting between two Olympic American Division teams. The Minutemen were without senior guard Jamie Huckel.

In an entertaining game played Friday night at Hollydell, Clearview defeated the defending champions from Eastern High School 5-2. The game started with Eastern spending the first minute in the Clearview zone, but goaltender Rich Reeger stymied the Vikings on two close-in scoring chances. Clearview would score on their first shot by Ryan Arnold, and it was 1-0 with less than two minutes played.

The 1998-99 boys basketball season is now in progress. With the NBA not playing, why not go and support the local kids in your area as they play a very competitive, fast paced, game? The Burlington County YMCA coed volleyball fall season has just ended with three big winners. Throughout the year, the Family "Y" of Burlington County runs coed volleyball leagues three nights a week and South Jersey Sports Online posts the standings, schedules and photos on the web. Each night features several levels of competition. The 1998 Fall League saw the following teams capture the championship for their respective groups. "Double Skunk" was the champion for the Monday Night BB-League, "Just Hit It" captured the Wednesday Night B-League and "Balzout" came out on top for the Thursday Night A-League.

New York City - On Monday, December 14, 1998, after a two day hearing on December 12 and 13, a three-member panel of the USA Track & Field Doping Hearing Board unanimously decided that three-time Olympic track star Dennis Mitchell did not commit a doping violation in April.

Washington Township raced out to a 4-0 lead and had to hold off a furious rally by Triton to win 5-4 in a game played at the Coliseum on Monday night. Tom Paolucci scored thirty seconds into the game to give Township the early 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Joseph Pelle scored with Township having a two man advantage on the power play and less than five minutes into the game it was 2-0.
