There's a reason the girl's lacrosse team from Moorestown has dominated their sport and it was quite evident Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Quakers showed off their zone defense that held the powerful Eastern offense in check. Moorestown completely forced the Vikings to not play their style of aggressive lacrosse and the Lady Quakers took full advantage of turnovers. Moorestown scored the last eight goals of the second half and cruised from that point on. When the clock tick away at the end of this South Jersey Group A semifinals game, Moorestown would advance to the finals with their 12-2 win against Eastern. Margie Curran scored five goals in the first half to lead the Lady Quakers. |

So far this season, there have been two teams from the Olympic Conference that have set the standard of how to execute and win in the sport of high school boy's lacrosse. The two division leaders from the represented divisions met on the field at Shawnee High School to compete against each other for the first time this season. St. Augustine, who has had a tough series of games lately, ran into a Renegades team who has won 14 games in a row. Keith Prifte led Shawnee's attack with six goals in their 12-4 victory over the Hermits. |

It has been a while since the game of lacrosse has been watched by this reporter who rarely gets the opportunity to relax in a chair enjoy it. It didn't take long to notice that these two teams, Cherry Hill East and Cherry Hill West, were closely matched team filled with role players with speed could simply take over a game. During the beginning of the first half, West's momentum after the face off could not be stopped. East would rebound to take the lead, but it would be that early momentum that was remembered by the Lady Cougars that allowed them to pull off the 13-12 upset over Cherry Hill East. |

It was only their second game on their schedule and maybe it was a sign of good things to come. For the Lady Cougars from Cherry Hill West, seeing Eastern and Collingswood as their first two games of their season had to be a bit intimidating. Eastern had made it to the semi-finals of the South A playoffs last year while Collingswood had captured the Olympic Conference National Division title. For West, none of that mattered as they stumbled against Eastern but rallied against Collingswood. The Cougars battled to an impressive 10-10 deadlock that proved to be a small victory for Cherry Hill West. |

It’'s always nice to see a new sport in our area gain interest whether or not the team has the experienced players to lead them. For the first year boy's lacrosse team from Holy Cross, each game can be looked at as another "lesson learned". Today's match up against the second year Camden Catholic team served as a game they should have won on paper only because of the number of times they have played together as a team. The Irish would use that experience and picked up their third win in a row by defeating Holy Cross 12-4. |

When the sport of lacrosse became viewed as a game to take serious back in the early 1900s, the men were the ones representing their country during the Olympic competition. Even before that time period, during the early 1800s when the game lasted from sun up to sun down with the field over five hundred yards apart, lacrosse was reportedly played to toughen the warriors for actual combat. Dressed with their body armor and ready for battle, the boy's lacrosse team from Camden Catholic visited the Indians from Lenape. Despite Kyle Bowe's overall effort for Lenape, keeper Sean Scanlon stood tall turning away shot after shot for Camden Catholic. The Irish stayed one step ahead of Lenape to come away with the 7-6 victory. |
