High School Soccer: Monday, October 9, 2006 By Jerome Michaels When the schedules are presented to the teams at the beginning of the season, players sometimes take notice of all of the dates for the divisional games. Those match ups have a lot of meaning in the standings no matter what the teams overall record maybe. In a Tri-County Conference Classic Division, the Pennsville Eagles traveled to Gloucester to take on the Lions in a classic boys' soccer game. Pennsville has struggled a bit this season picking up wins but was focused on one objective and that was to come away with that all important division victory. It took two overtime sessions for it to occur, but the Eagles' Phil Cornman scored the game winning goal as time was expiring giving Pennsville the 2-1 win. |
High School Softball: Friday, April 21, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty The Tri-County Conference Classic Division had two teams that were undefeated so far and one of those teams were the Lady Eagles from Pennsville. Woodstown would be the other team in first place ahead of Pennsville, Schalick and the Lady Lions from Gloucester. After having their five game winning streak snapped, the Lions would host the undefeated Eagles in search of rebounding from a tough loss earlier in the week. Gloucester would overcome an early deficit in a big way by scoring nine unanswered runs against the Eagles over four innings. When the final out was recorded by starting pitcher Sam Dobleman, the Lions would be on the winning side of a 10-6 victory. |
High School Baseball: Wednesday, April 20, 2005 By Jerome Michaels This game was a preview of what could happen again in the playoffs. Pennsville and Gloucester met during last year’s group championship game with the Eagles winning by four runs over top seeded Gloucester. Both teams are expected to return to the final game, but there was a regular season standing in their way. Proving that they are better than the team that captured the Tri-County Conference Classic Division title, Pennsville expanded a three run advantage by scoring ten runs in the sixth to pick up the 18-6 victory at Gloucester. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 25, 2004 By Jerome Michaels Bouncing back from a tough loss in their season opener, Gloucester was the favorite in their home game against Pennsville. But being the favorite could add some pressure to a team that it takes a while for them to relax. It only took one and a half minutes into this game that the Lions showed how relaxed they were on the field. Senior runningback David Saunders scored the first of three first quarter touchdowns. The offensive line was not done opening wholes for anyone to run through. By the end of the game, Gloucester cruised to a 41-14 win to pick up their first victory of the season. |
