High School Baseball: Wednesday, April 11, 2007 By Clark Washington It's a situation that most baseball players put themselves in and that is to come up to the plate with a chance to win the game for your team. When the Red Devils from Penns Grove held a one run lead at the start of the bottom of the sixth inning, Gloucester Catholic would get two runners on base with Matt Umba looking to pick up another key hit to drive in another run. This time, Umba nailed a three run homerun for the Rams to re-take the lead. Gloucester Catholic would give up a run during the seventh inning but they would come away with a 5-4 victory and pick up their third win of the season. |
High School Football: Friday, September 8, 2006 By Chase Robertson Woodstown, for those who don’t know, Coach Frank LaRubbio gave you a small idea as to what you can expect from your high school football athletes. Woodstown played with a desire that has not been that evident in quite some time, these guys came out and blocked, and ran and played like a team that knew better days are ahead. The defense should be commended for only giving up one score, a 53 pass reception from John Coppage to Aaron Hayward, the subsequent 2 point conversion, also scored by Hayward proved to be the difference as Penn’s Grove hung on for a 8 6 win. |
High School Baseball: Friday, May 14, 2004 By Jerome Michaels It was one of those games that no lead seemed to be safe. Both teams sent a total of twenty-six crossing the plate that indicated the offense was clicking on all cylinders. Trying to do all that he could, pitcher Calvin Lewis survived Penns Grove 17-9 win over Wildwood with not just his pitching arm. Lewis stepped up at the plate during the bottom of the fifth inning and delivered a grand slam to push the Red Devils ahead for good. |
High School Basketball: Tuesday, February 3, 2004 By Crystal Parker When Wildwood’s basketball programs moved from the Cape-Atlantic Conference into the Tri-County Conference Classic Division, there were a few critics wondering if they would survive a division with more formable opponents. The Lady Warriors have ruled the Classic Division for the past two years and have not lost a divisional game yet. Penns Grove, for the second time this season, tried to find ways to limit Wildwood scoring chances and the Warriors’ 13 game winning streak. Senior Jen Fetsick would lead Wildwood’s consistent play and capture a 51-38 decision against the Red Devils. |
