Saturday, May 12, 2007 By Susan Hall With the postseason not too far away, there are two teams who aren't worried about qualifying for the playoffs. In a non-league softball game, the Silver Knights from Sterling were hosting the Lady Flashes from Florence. Both of these teams are amongst the leaders of their division and for them, every win moves them closer to capturing the division or conference title. Starting pitcher Melissa Mehrer had everything going her way for Florence as she not only hit a home run but also completed the game and struck out twelve batters. Florence would shutout Sterling by an 11-0 score and extended their winning streak to seven games. |

Friday, December 2, 2005 By Vincent Lewis One year ago, Florence had won their twenty-fourth game in a row without a single loss and were rewarded their second straight Central Jersey Group I title game. This year, it would be a different but familiar team the Flashes would have to beat in order to extend their winning streak to thirty-six games in a row. The second seeded David Brearley football squad was that team standing in the way of Florence's ambitions of winning their third title. An early lead followed by Joe Spahn's third touchdown run late in the fourth quarter finally sealed the win for Florence. With their 19-6 win, Florence were chanted the words...three peat, three peat, three peat. |

Tuesday, May 17, 2005 By Jerome Michaels Burlington Township has been trying to prove that they deserve to be sitting on top of the Burlington County Liberty Division. No opponent should be considered an easy win when it comes to a sport that needs all the players on the field contribute to a victory. The Falcons would be tested today against a very good Florence team who represented the Freedom Division. Burlington Township wasted little time scoring runs as they sent fourteen batters to the plate in the first inning that resulted in an eleven run lead. Florence would rally during their next at bat, but the early success by the Falcons was too much for their opponent to overcome. Burlington Township would extend their winning streak to two games with their 13-8 victory. |

Thursday, April 7, 2005 By Susan Hall New Egypt and Florence were very familiar with each other’s softball program as they could be found at the top of the Burlington County Freedom division. Both teams advanced to the group title game last year with the Lady Warriors from New Egypt winning the championship. At the start of another run at the title, Florence did not let a quick start by the Warriors bother them as they battled back from a three run deficit. But a classic battle between Florence’s Melissa Mehrer and Shannon Houston proved to be the difference for New Egypt. A single up the middle by Houston brought home the winning run to claim the 5-4 extra inning victory. |

Saturday, December 4, 2004 By Jerome Michaels Every team faces challenges during the regular season and especially during the playoffs. For the Flashes from Florence, another challenge of facing an unfamiliar opponent during the Group playoffs tests the coaching staff’s ability to adapt. It seemed that Florence was able to execute their game plan against New Providence during the Central Jersey Group 1 title game at the Pit. Florence erased an early deficit and stream rolled past the Pioneers to pick up their second straight championship. Florence has now won 24 straight games with their 35-7 victory. |

Saturday, November 20, 2004 By Jerome Michaels Every game played on the field is a challenge that the Flashes from Florence has accepted. During their past two seasons, Florence has accumulated a twenty-two game winning streak and was looking for one more to claim their second straight. Visiting David Brearley, seeded third, gave the Flashes a scare when they trailed for a brief moment in this semifinals game. A Maurice Calhoun touchdown run to tie the game and then a Matt Ordog passing score put the Flashes ahead for good. With the 33-20 victory, Florence will play fourth seeded New Providence to the group title. |

Saturday, October 23, 2004 By Clark Washington This late in the season, it was special for two undefeated teams from the same division to meet on the playing field to take a big step towards first place. There was another reason this was a special game between Florence and Burlington City. Both of these teams had a winning streak they were trying to extend. Florence was the team that unknowingly decided this low scoring, defensive battle in the first quarter. The Flashes posted a 10-0 lead and held onto it for the remainder of the game. |
