High School Soccer: Thursday, October 5, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty The month of October is that time of the year where high school students are getting ready for cooler temperatures, school dances and homecoming events. It's also that time when soccer teams know that less than two weeks is the cutoff date to qualify for the state tournament. Hovering around the requirements to make it into the playoffs were the Lady Tartans from Highland soccer team. In an important Tri-County Conference Royal Division game against Cumberland, Highland would post a 2-1 victory and pull within one game of evening their record to the five hundred level. |
High School Soccer: Friday, September 23, 2005 By Clark Washington For the first half of this boy's soccer game held at Deptford High School, the Colts from Cumberland and the Spartans patiently maneuvered themselves back and forth in each others end of the field looking for that opportunity of putting that soccer ball into their opponents net. Neither team had success scoring during the first forty minutes which left the coaching staff making adjustment during the break. Cumberland would finally break the scoreless tie by scoring two quick goals to pull in front of a determined Spartans squad. The Colts would add one more goal and preserve the shutout as goalie Kyle Bayzick turned away every shot that came his way. |
High School Softball: Wednesday, April 20, 2005 By Susan Hall It's not uncommon to see a starting pitcher complete one game and then find that same pitcher staying on the mound to pitch yet another game on the same day. This past weekend in the Overbrook tournament, Nicole Ayres pitched twice and picked up two completed game wins for the Lady Spartans from Deptford against Pennsville and Eastern and she was not done. Starting in a Tri-County Conference Royal Division match-up against Cumberland, Ayres pitched recorded twelve strikeouts and Jackie Brown collected four hits helping the Spartans to a 17-0 win over the Colts. |
