![]() Last Inning Run Pushes East Past Cherokee Wednesday, April 24, 2002 By Jerome Michaels In a battle between two Olympic Conference American Division teams, both Cherokee and Cherry Hill East were attempting to get back on the winning track. Each of these teams were chasing the division leading Washington Township in the standing with the playoff cut-off date coming next month. After the Chiefs tied the game in the top of the sixth inning, it was Cherry Hill East's Tom Caracciolo's single in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 5-4 victory. |
High School Volleyball: Fairlawn Captures Viking Invitational Saturday, April 13, 2002 By John Daglian The 7th annual Viking invitational Boys Volleyball tournament was held at Eastern High School. This tournament normally features several of the top schools in the state. This year was no exception as 7 of the top 15 schools attended. The first pool consisted of Eastern (#4), Fairlawn (#2), Cherry Hill West, Wayne Hills (#6) and West Windsor South. The second pool contained Cherry Hill East (#9), East Brunswick (#8), Bridgewater (#15), St. Peters (#11) and Hackensack. |

This game was all Clearview as they scored twice in the games first two minutes, both goals set-up by Dave Gooch. |
![]() Eastern Rallies Late To Defeat Cougars Thursday, February 7, 2002 By Vincent Lewis At the end of the month, schools that qualified for the South Jersey group playoffs will begin their quest to capture the title. For those teams, the remainder of their schedule is used to either polish their skills in preparation for the playoffs or capture the divisional title. Neither was true for Cherry Hill East hosting Eastern. Cherry Hill East would not be able to capture the divisional title from Eastern (17-1, 9-0) but the Cougars would get into the South Jersey Group IV playoffs. In this game, East would lead for most of the way until the Vikings came alive late in the fourth quarter to post a 58-55 win. |
![]() Cinnaminson Edges East Despite Effort by Fesnak Monday, January 28, 2002 By Mike Costantino Five different players scored for Cinnaminson as they defeated Cherry Hill East 5-3 on Monday night at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. With the season winding down and teams looking forward to next season, East got a glimpse of the future when they inserted freshman goalie Zack Fesnak. With his team trailing 2-0 after the games first 2 minutes on goals by Ryan Hulton and Anthony Asciutto, Fesnak came in and played spectacular. Sparked by Finks' play, East cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Jim Brown on a blast from the point. |
![]() Five Different Players Score as Eastern Defeats East Monday, January 7, 2002 By Mike Costantino Balanced scoring is a luxury most coaches will tell you is key for a successful hockey team. That's just what Eastern got on Monday night as five different players scored to lead the Vikings past Cherry Hill East 5-2 in action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. John Piermatti opened the scoring for Eastern as he re-directed a point shot by Richard DeMonte and the period ended with Eastern up 1-0. It could have been a lot worse as the Vikings had a five-minute power play but failed to connect. |
![]() Martorano and Pelle Brothers Too Much for East Monday, December 17, 2001 By Mike Costantino Nick Martorano had a goal and three assists, Joe and Jason Pelle scored two goals apiece as Washington Township defeated Cherry Hill East 8-2. In a game that became more physical as time wore on, Township took advantage of the man advantage by scoring four power play goals. Joe Pelle scored the only goal of the first period on a great cross-ice pass from Martorano, as he just redirected the puck into the net. The period ended with Township up 1-0. |

![]() Shawnee Captures Group 4 Soccer Title Friday, November 9, 2001 By Jerome Michaels It was a game that Cherry Hill East seemed to dominate the entire afternoon in front of a capacity crowd. A classic battle between two powerhouse soccer teams met to decide who would capture the South Jersey Group 4 boy's soccer title. The Shawnee Renegades kept their composer all game not allowing the Cougars to get a real good shot on goal. This was a game that only one goal would be scored and it happened at the very end of the second overtime period when Jamie Franks got his shot into the net for the 1-0 victory. |

The Lady Vikings were able to get that key goal past the strong goaltending of Cherry Hill East's Emily Brenner. In the second overtime, Aleka Yrantsos scored the winning goal to give the tenth seeded Vikings a second round Group 4 victory over the second seeded Lady Cougars. |
![]() Fifth Annual Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournament Held at Cherry Hill East Saturday, October 27, 2001 By John Daglian Cherry Hill East High School hosted their fifth annual Junior Varsity Volleyball tournament on Saturday October 27th. Sixteen teams from 11 schools would participate in this year's event. As the girl's season concludes this week, this type of tournament gives the younger players a tremendous opportunity to gain valuable experience. The format divided the teams into three pools. Two pools had five teams and one pool had six teams. Each team would play the other teams in their pool twice. The teams with the best records in each pool would advance to the semi-finals. Additionally, the team with the best second place record would be given the final semi-final spot. |
![]() Cherry Hill East Girls Bounce Back Against Pennsauken Monday, October 22, 2001 By Forrest Robleto The Cougars (11-1-1) were bruised by the loss at Triton but came back to blank the Pennsauken Indians by the score of 8-0. Christine Mullin scored three goals and had two assists, followed by Lauren Kraemer with two goals and an assist, and Brittany Kaplan with a goal and an assist. Shana Herman and Dana DiBruno rounded out the scoring. Jessica Young had two assists and Amanda Kravtitz had one. |
![]() Fox and Desimone Help Clearview Remain Undefeated Friday, October 19, 2001 By Mike Costantino Gunnar Fox scored four times and Anthony Desimone added two goals and two assists as Clearview defeated Cherry Hill East 10-2 and remain the only undefeated Tier 1 team in the league. John Probe opened the scoring for Clearview as Cherry Hill got caught on a line change. Probe broke in all alone and just over a minute into the game Clearview led 1-0. Two minutes later Nick Vacarino intercepted a clearing pass and scored short-handed to make it 2-0. Desimone made it 3-0, after a scramble in front he put the puck just inside the far post. |

Dana DiBruno and Amanda Kravitz each scored two goals, and Daniel DiBruno scored a goal and two assists. Shana Herman rounded out the scoring for Cherry Hill while Maureen Gantt scored Winslow's lone goal. |
High School Volleyball: Cougars Take Conference Lead - Stop Vikings Monday, October 8, 2001 By John Daglian The much anticipated match between the Eastern Lady Vikings and the Cherry Hill East Lady Cougars took place in Cherry Hill. These teams have shared the conference title the last two seasons and are on track to battle for that title once more. The Cougars entered the match undefeated. The Vikings had only one non-conference loss to Hunterdon Central on the road. These teams were eager to finish what they started almost one month ago at the Viking Invitational when the match was called due to an electrical problem. |

No matter what their record states, it all comes down to how well they played. Two very good boy's soccer teams were playing against each other in Pennsauken in an Olympic Conference meeting. Camden Catholic were hosting Cherry Hill East, which both teams were trying to make a statement of how good they could be against a good soccer team. It would be a penalty kick in overtime by Evan Myers to give the Irish a 2-1 win at home. |

This tournament normally features several of the top Group 4 schools in the state. However, in light of the recent events three teams were unable to attend. In order to maintain two 5 team pools, Eastern entered three teams and Cherry Hill East entered two teams. |
