Golf Spotlight: Wednesday, April 18, 2007 By Bob Heller After being postponed for a day, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Golf Championships took place yesterday at Frog Hollow Golf Club in Middletown, Delaware. The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia golf team was one of ten teams competing and battling the less than perfect weather conditions. When all the teams had finished their round, the Devils had placed eighth amongst the ten teams, equaling their finish from last season. The Devils finished the 18-hole tournament with a score of 340, two strokes behind seventh place Philadelphia University and 29 strokes behind tournament winner Post University. The Eagles won their second consecutive CACC Men's Golf Championship, edging Goldey-Beacom College by just one stroke, 311-312. |
College Golf: Monday, April 16, 2007 By Mike Ballard Freshman Dave Taraschi broke the Rutgers-Camden golf program record by shooting a 1-under-par 69 to win individual medalist honors at the Tom Ruggieri Invitational II April 10. Taraschi not only finished five strokes ahead of the runnerup and was the lone golfer under par that day, but he broke the former Rutgers-Camden record of 71, which was set by Chris Binder at the Susquehanna Spring Invitational April 7, 2005. Taraschi's performance helped the Scarlet Raptors record their lowest score of the spring. Rutgers-Camden shot 329 as a team to finish third in the five-team event. Host Widener won with a 304. Widener's Kyle Durham finished second behind Taraschi with a 74. |
Golf Spotlight: Saturday, April 14, 2007 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia place third at yesterday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tri-match between the Devils, Goldey Beacom College and host Holy Family University at Frankford Torresdale Country Club in northeast Philadelphia. Goldey Beacom finished first with a score of 336, followed by Holy Family (360). The devils shot 405 on the day to place third. The losses drop the Devils record to 5-10 overall. Scott Cahayla led the Devils with a score of 89, nine strokes behind medalist Steve Cutler of Goldey Beacom and tied for sixth place overall. Michael Moll (98), Blake Vida (105) and Nathan Zook (113) rounded out the Devils four finishers. |
College Golf: Saturday, March 31, 2007 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia coed golf team earned their first two wins of the season in yesterday's quad match at Island Green Country Club, turning in their lowest team score in over seven seasons as the defeated Haverford College and Chestnut Hill College while falling to defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Goldey Beacom College. The Devils shot 315 on the afternoon, placing second behind Goldey Beacom's 304. Haverford shot 334 and Chestnut Hill shot 393 on the afternoon. The Devils improve to 2-6 overall with the wins over the Fords and the Griffins. |
College Golf: Monday, April 17, 2006 By Mike Ballard Junior Joe Zulli shot an 81 to pace the injury-depleted Rutgers University-Camden golf team at the Tom Ruggieri Invitational April 13. The Scarlet Raptors, playing without injured junior Matt Tomasic for the second time in three spring outings, finished with a score of 347. The 15-team event featured a pair of Division I programs, including team champion Villanova University, which shot a 300 on the Par 71 Frog Hollow Golf Club course . Tomasic had the Scarlet Raptors’ lowest average during the fall with a 79.0, and carded an 82 in his one spring outing. |
