It was another game of comebacks, but this should have been expected in a South Jersey Group 4 championship game. Cherry Hill East would jump out to a 7-3 lead after 3 innings just to see Cherokee come within one run in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Cougars would finally hold off Cherokee's rallies to capture the title. They would break open the game in the top of the seventh on Arnold Zappasodi's grand slam, and go on to a 16-7 victory to close the game.

With Bishop Eustace sitting comfortably on top of the Olympic Conference National Division, visiting Camden Catholic would seem to be just another win in the standings. Bishop Eustace was undefeated in their division and planning on keeping it that way. The Crusaders would go with starting pitcher Mike Maley who was in search of his fourth win. He would not get that win as Camden Catholic knocked him out of the game in the third inning. Bishop Eustace would get the win though, as they made due on every oppurtunity to take a 13-5 triumph over Camden Catholic.

It was another example of being patient and not losing their cool for Moorestown High School. After striking first blood in the first inning with two runs, the Quakers broke a 2-2 tie with 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Delran 9-2. Rocky Petrone came into the game in the third inning for Mike Rhoads and got the win for Moorestown. Petrone's second win of the season was supported by the defense and Rhoads' second homer of the year.

This was a classic example of the unexpected. Millville, considered one of the top teams in South Jersey High School baseball, visited Highland on Monday. Highland's starting pitcher Joe Ruple held returning star seniors Steve Setser and Jim Rhubart of Millville in check. Ruple pitched a complete game and had four strikeouts in the non-league 10-2 victory. Neil Tannabaum and Mike Murphy both had 3 hits each for Highland.

It was a day where runs would be scored in bunches. Well, at least that was the case for Washington Township. They would bat around plus two in the second inning and rolled past Camden Catholic 12 - 2 in an Olympic Conference game. Township's Rob Egan highlighted the inning with a three-run homerun and Brett Munch contributed a two-run double.

Play Ball! That's the sound you would hear all around South Jersey high school ball parks. The only thing missing was the warm temperatures and bright sunny skies. When Highland went to Cherokee High School, both teams were greeted with light rain and cold temperatures. Each player was trying to find a way to keep warm and get them through seven innings of baseball. It would be Cherokee who would heat up for a come from behind victory and defeat Highland 12-6 for their first win of this young 1998 season.
