Bears Take Win in Hershey, Rivals top Phantoms 5-2 Saturday, March 17, 2007 By Brian Smith Jakub Klepis scored two goals to lead the Hershey Bears to a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms at the GIANT Center in Hershey on Saturday night. The Bears took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal 2:02 into the game. A puck came to Matt Hendricks to the right of the net, and he walked in front before beating Martin Houle to the short-side post. Philadelphia evened affairs at 1-1 with 3:51 left in the period when Mark Cullen set up Ryan Potulny for the pair's third goal in two nights. This time Cullen was in the right-side circle when he played a pass into the slot for Potulny, who poked it home while in traffic. But with just 5.6 seconds left, Joey Tenute gave Hershey a 2-1 advantage. He stole a puck in the Phantoms slot and fired it past Houle for the intermission lead. |

KiXX Drop into Third Place After Loss to Storm, 11-6 Saturday, March 17, 2007 By Tom Hushen The Philadelphia KiXX (15-11) fell to the Chicago Storm (12-12) by a final score of 11-6 in front of 5,957 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. The KiXX drop into third place in the MISL standings with just four games remaining, despite a two goal effort from three-time Defender-of-the Year Genoni Martinez. The League currently has five teams within 3.5 games, all fighting to lock up four playoff spots. The defending champion Baltimore Blast come to Philadelphia next weekend, March 24, currently holding a half game lead on the KiXX. |
![]() Short-Handed Goal ends Shawnee Season Thursday, March 15, 2007 By Mike Costantino Dave Orlando scored short-handed with four minutes remaining in the game as Garnet Valley defeated Shawnee 3-2 in first round action of the Flyers Cup. After a sluggish first period that ended in a 1-1 tie, Shawnee took its only lead of the game as Joe Pezzato scored on a great pass from Matt McDonald for a 2-1 lead at the seven minute mark. That lead lasted less than ninety seconds as Jake Pilarski scored for Garnet Valley to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the final period. |

Pauley Earns Area Small College Coach of the Year Honors Thursday, March 15, 2007 By Bob Heller University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Head Men's Basketball Coach David Pauley was named the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association Sam Cozen Coach of the Year Award for the 2006-07 season at the organization's Senior Recognition Banquet held earlier this week. Pauley shared this honor with Community College of Philadelphia's Robert "Dondi" DeShields. Pauley, in his seventh season at the helm of the Devils, guided USP into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game against Caldwell College. The Devils played a hard fought game before losing in the final seconds to the Cougars 61-60. USP was picked to finish ninth in the CACC pre-season coaches poll. USP finished the season with a 10-10 conference record and were 14-15 overall. |

Lavooy Sets Record but Devils Drop a Pair to Yellow Jackets Wednesday, March 14, 2007 By Bob Heller Sarina Lavooy became the all-time hit leader in the 24-year history of women's softball at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia yesterday afternoon. However the Devils dropped both ends of their doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets of American International College 5-3 and 11-7. USP falls to 3-9 overall with the two losses. AIC improves to 3-6 overall. Lavooy entered the game tied with all-time leader Michelle Manship at 125 career hits. After going 0-for-2 with a walk in her first three plate appearances, Lavooy hit a 1-2 pitch up the middle in the bottom of the seventh for her 126th career hit, putting her alone atop the all-time leaders. Lavooy added four more hits in the nightcap and now has 130 for her career. |
![]() Moorestown falls to Plymouth Whitemarsh in Flyers Cup Monday, March 12, 2007 By Mike Costantino Moorestown could not overcome a slow start and lost in the first round of the Flyers cup 6-3 against Plymouth Whitemarsh. Playing a competitive game for the first time in three weeks, Moorestown fell behind 3-0 after the first period and never recovered. Goals by Davy Johnson, Justin Morrison and Josh Aiello staked Whitemarsh to the three goal lead and the lead grew to 4-0 as Corey Hockman scored the only goal of the second period. |
![]() Raptor of the Week: Autumn Millett Monday, March 12, 2007 By Mike Ballard Senior outfielder Autumn Millett put on quite an offensive performance at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic in Florida over the weekend. In six games, Millett went 10-for-20 (.500) with six runs, eight RBIs, two doubles and three home runs. She had a 1.050 slugging percentage in those games. Along the way, Millett had six RBIs against Webster to set the Rutgers-Camden career RBI record with 105, breaking Michelle Schlichtig's old mark of 104. By the end of the weekend, Millett extended her program career records to 107 RBIs and 28 home runs. |

Devils Swept by Dragons Monday, March 12, 2007 By Bob Heller In their first games since returning from their spring break trip to Florida, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's softball team took on nearby Drexel University in a doubleheader at Drexel Field this afternoon. The Dragons swept both games, defeating the Devils, 6-1 in the opener and 9-0 in the nightcap. The Devils fall to 3-7 with the losses. Drexel improved to 4-3 on the season with the two wins. |
