First Place KiXX Defeat Defending Champs Baltimore Blast, 16-8

The Philadelphia KiXX (8-4) defeated the Baltimore Blast (5-7) tonight in the first of six meetings this season between the two clubs. 6,075 fans were treated to the KiXX Annual Mascot Game, featuring SocceRoo and area mascots facing off during half time. The game was the second of four straight home games through January 27 for the first place KiXX, who hold a half-game lead over the expansion Detroit Ignition. Three-time Defender-of-the-Year Genoni Martinez began the scoring for Philadelphia with his third three-pointer on the season, unassisted.

Felician Falls to Devils

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia placed four players in double figures as they defeated the Felician College golden Falcons, 83-53 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate conference men's basketball matchup Saturday afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. The win improved the Devils record to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in league play. Felician falls to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in league play. The 30-point margin of victory was the Devils largest since a 29 point win over Wilmington College at the start of the 2003-04 season.

Devils Cruise to Fourth Straight Conference Win

Twelve different players scored as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team cruised to a 74-42 win over Felician College Saturday afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. The win is the Devils fourth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph, improving their league record to 5-4 and their overall record to 8-6. Felician falls to 1-17 overall and 0-10 in league games. Shelby Rance led the Devils with 17 points. Rashanna Edwards and Hayley Lentz added nine points apiece; Davitra Goode had seven and Autumn Tully and Erin Chesnavich added six points each. Lentz also paced the Devils with seven rebounds. Lori Sedina led the Devils with five assists while Edwards and Emily Aponte had four assists each.

Wings Lose Home Opener To Lumberjax 14-12

The Wings' remain winless (0-2) this season as they fell to the Lumberjax, 14-12, Saturday at the Wachovia Center. Dallas Eliuk, who spent 15 seasons in Philadelphia, made 44 saves for the victory. He is the only goaltender to win the Championship MVP twice and is a nine-time All-Pro. The Wings pulled within one goal on six occasions, but could not even up the score. Jeff Ratcliffe led the Wings with three goals and an assist, while Peter Morgan recorded three goals and six assists for the Lumberjax.

Last-Minute Goal Lifts Lowell to 5-3 Win

The Phantoms fought to the final buzzer on Friday night but ended up falling victim to an unlucky bounce in a 5-3 loss to the Lowell Devils at Tsongas Arena. David Clarkson finished the night with four goals for the home team, while three different players provided the scoring for Philadelphia. Lowell jumped out to a 2-0 lead on one goal each in the first and second periods. Clarkson started his night off with a power play tally at 12:20 of the first period when he pushed home a puck that Phantoms netminder Martin Houle had nearly covered up. Then in the second frame, Clarkson scored again at the 12:06 mark.

Tajeda Leads Cougars to Double Overtime Win

In the world of sports, people are always making predictions on the outcome of a particular game. On the high school level, fans of the game analyze their reasons why the finals score of the game will be determined by their supporting facts. Players on the court do their best to ignore all of the predictions and try to concentrate on playing the game. In an Olympic Conference American Division girls' basketball game between Cherry Hill East traveling to Pennsuaken, Vianca Tajeda would help the Lady Cougars determine the outcome of this game with her effort on the court. Tajeda not only sent this game into overtime with a buzzer-beater three pointer, the Cougars would also rally around her and secure a 67-63 double overtime win over Pennsauken.

William Kurtz made seven three point field goals as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's basketball team defeated Penn State-Abington, 74-61 in a non-league contest in Abington, Pennsylvania. The Devils improve to 7-6 with the win. The Lions fall to 8-4. Kurtz led all scorers with 22 points. Lanier added 17 points and a team-high six rebounds. Eric Cangelosi added 10 points. Lanier and Cangelosi also recorded five assists apiece. Marvin Dutton led Penn State with 19 points. Chris Caine and Jamaal Oliver added 11 points apiece.

Bridgeport Wins 2-1 In Shootout

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers outgunned the Philadelphia Phantoms in the shootout to take a 2-1 extra time win at The Arena At Harbor Yard on Wednesday night. Darren Reid scored in regulation for the fourth straight game, grabbing the equalizer in the second period. Bridgeport opened the scoring at 15:50 of the first period. Allan Rourke brought the puck down the right side along the boards before sliding one out to the top of the crease. Petteri Nokelainen redirected the centering bid to make it 1-0. But Reid continued his hot play after the intermission. Reid was trailing as Pete Zingoni brought the puck through the left circle and went deep before dropping it back out in front, where Reid was waiting to knock it home at 8:44 of the frame.

Devils Rally to Defeat Chargers

A combination of strong shooting and solid defense in the second half of tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball game between the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Dominican College enabled the Devils to erase a seven-point second half deficit and defeat the chargers 73-67 tonight at the Bobby Morgan Arena. The Devils improve to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in league play. Dominican falls to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Devils placed three players in double figures led by Shelby Rance's 18 points. Allison Weiss added 17 points and nine rebounds, connecting on eight of nine shots from the field while Erin Chesnavich chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Lori Sedina added seven points, all in the second half to go along with five boards, five assists, three blocks and a steal. Rashanna Edwards paced the Devils with eight assists.

Chargers Hand the Devils their Third CACC Loss

Dominican College led nearly wire-to-wire as they handed the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia their third Central Atlantic Collegiate conference loss of the season, 60-49 in a men's basketball game at the Bobby Morgan Arena tonight. The loss drops the Devils to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Chargers improve to 6-6 overall and 5-2 in league play. USP placed one player in double figures, Eric Cangelosi, who had 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Michael Mullane and Keith Dundas each had eight points while Jarrod Frazier came off the bench to score seven.

Emmet and Davis lead Township past struggling Moorestown

Jared Emmet scored two goals and Colin Davis added a goal and two assists as Washington Township defeated Moorestown 4-1. The loss was the fourth in the last five games for Moorestown. Emmet scored both goals in the first period, and they came nineteen seconds apart, both times Davis drew the defense over and that created some space for Emmet, who took advantage of his opportunities. With Township on the power play late in the second period, Davis used his speed to get around the defense and his goal made it 3-0.

Buonadonna Nets Four as Black Horse defeats Delran

Matt Buonadonna scored four goals and Matt Owens and Joe Sauer added two goals each as Black Horse defeated Delran 10-7 in Tier 2 action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. The first period was all offense and not much defense as the teams combined to score 9 goals. Buonadonna and Sauer both score just over two minutes into the game, and they were looking for more as they went on the power play, but a breakaway goal by Tyler Leary cut the lead to 2-1. Buonadonna got that goal back as he out-hustled the Delran defense to a loose puck and his quick wrist shot made it 3-1.

Raptor of the Week: Imani Hafiz & Carmen Oyola

Juniors Imani Hafiz and Carmen Oyola both turned in outstanding performances during the week for the Rutgers-Camden women's basketball team. Hafiz collected 44 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and 12 steals in three games, including game-high points (17) and steals (5) against Juniata Jan. 3, game-high steals (3) against Scranton Jan. 5 and tying for team-high points (17) with Oyola against Goucher Jan. 6. Oyola had a team-high 11 points against Scranton and led the Raptors with 28 points to earn all-tournament honors at the Diversified Classic (Jan. 5-6). In three games for the week, she had 35 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Phantoms Can't Catch Griffins

Three different Grand Rapids players scored in the middle period to lift the Griffins to an eventual 3-2 win over the Phantoms on Monday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Darren Reid continued his hot play, scoring for the third consecutive game and picking up his fifth goal in that span. The game was nearly at its halfway point before either team netted a goal, and it was Grand Rapids finally striking first at 8:42 of the second period. Danny Syvret fired a shot from the right side point that Scott Munroe stopped, but the rebound went right to the stick of Ryan Keller. Keller fired it into an open net for the 1-0 lead. The night marked Keller's third consecutive game with a goal.
