Five Rutgers-Camden Student-Athletes make Inquirer All-Area Academic Teams Sunday, December 10, 2006 By Mike Ballard Rutgers University-Camden placed five student-athletes on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area teams when the newspaper announced its fall sports squads Sunday. A pair of Scarlet Raptors were named to the All-Area Men's Soccer team, as junior midfielder Rodney Guishard and sophomore back/midfielder A.J. O'Malley were each honored on the Inquirer's second annual fall academic squad. Rutgers-Camden sophomore back Jenna Perez was named to the All-Area Women's Soccer team. The Raptors also had an all-academic performer from both of their men's and women's cross country teams. Senior Rachel McCormick made the Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Team for the second straight year, while sophomore Travis Stewart was named to the Academic All-Area Men's Cross Country Team. |

Run Sparks No. 12 William Paterson Past Rutgers-Camden, 82-35 Saturday, December 9, 2006 By Mike Ballard It took a while for the William Paterson University men's basketball team to hit its stride in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday, but when the Pioneers started clicking, they fully resembled a nationally-ranked team. Paterson, ranked No. 12 in the latest d3hoops.com Top 25, overcame an early seven-point deficit, aided by a blistering 29-1 first-half run, and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 82-35. Its fourth straight win lifts Paterson to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC with its second straight loss. William Paterson has won nine straight games and 36 of the last 37 against Rutgers-Camden. The Scarlet Raptors' lone win in that span was a 69-68 victory in Camden Feb. 6, 2002. The Pioneers now hold a 44-5 lead in the all-time series. |

Fast Start Lifts William Paterson over Rutgers-Camden Women Saturday, December 9, 2006 By Mike Ballard The William Paterson University women's basketball team raced to a 39-16 halftime lead and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 72-48, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday. The Pioneers, who have won five straight games, improve to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC. The Lady Raptors, who have lost four straight, fall to 3-5 and 0-3. After both teams went scoreless for the opening 3:28, Paterson rattled off eight straight points and notched 18 of the first 21 points. The Pioneers held the Raptors scoreless until junior guard Imani Hafiz converted a three-point play 5:43 into the game. |

Strong Second Half Powers Devils to Win over Cougars Saturday, December 9, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's basketball team placed five players in double figures and held the Caldwell College Cougars scoreless for a six minute stretch in the second half as they came from behind to defeat the Cougars, 65-52 this afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. The win improves the Devils record to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Cougars fall to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in league play. Eric Cangelosi shook off his 1-for-13 shooting performance from two nights ago and led the Devils with 15 points, connecting on five of nine shots from the field and five of eight from the free throw line. Bill Kurtz came off the bench to score 14 points (4-9 3 FG). Collin Harrington added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Keith Dundas and Howard Lanier each had 10 points for the Devils. Lanier also dished out a game-high six assists. |

Cougars Defeat Devils in Overtime Saturday, December 9, 2006 By Bob Heller Mackenzie Lynch scored 44 points as Caldwell College handed the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team their second consecutive home loss, 82-72 in overtime this afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. The loss drops the Devils to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Caldwell improves to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in league games. Lynch connected on 16 of 22 shots from the field and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line to account for her 44 points. She also recorded a double-double, pulling down 22 rebounds. Melissa Freeman and Shannon Coyle added 16 and 11 points respectively. Freeman also recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds. |
High School Ice Hockey:
Senior Trio leads Township over Clearview Friday, December 8, 2006 By Mike Costantino Colin Davis had a hat trick and David Moore and Christian Biscardi added two goals each as Washington Township defeated Clearview 10-2 in front of a packed house at Hollydell. Joe Tropiano and Andrew Michael scored the Clearview goals. Township scored the last six goals to break open a close game. Biscardi got Township going scoring at the eight minute mark of the opening period. Tropiano tied the game on the power play, but Biscardi responded scoring a power play. Goals by Cameron Rowand and Christian Fleagle gave Township a 4-1 lead after the first period. |

Rutgers-Camden's Baldiserra captures NSCAA Third Team All-American honor Friday, December 8, 2006 By Mike Ballard Rutgers University-Camden junior midfielder Pat Baldiserra (Milmay, NJ/Buena Regional) has long been considered one of the best players in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Now he's expanded his reputation to the rest of the country. Baldiserra has been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America by being named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division III All-America Third Team. Baldiserra becomes the first NSCAA All-American since Rutgers-Camden became an NCAA program. He is only the second All-American in program history, joining Kadalah Kromah, who was named as an NAIA All-American in 1973. |

Wolves Bounce Past Phantoms, Chicago Takes 5-3 Win Friday, December 8, 2006 By Mike Thornton A bounce off the boards and another off a pair of goalie pads was the difference Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum as the Chicago Wolves took a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms. Matt Ellison celebrated his birthday with a goal and two assists in the setback. Chicago jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 59 seconds apart in the first period. Kevin Doell picked up the first tally 5:33 into the frame, starting the play by pushing the puck ahead out of the Phantoms zone and then taking a give-and-go pass from Colin Stuart before lifting one out of the reach of Scott Munroe's glove. |

The win improves the Tigers to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Devils fall to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in conference games. |

The win improved the Devils record to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in league play. Goldey Beacom falls to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in league games. |

Devils Hold off Lightning for First Conference Win Tuesday, December 5, 2006 By Bob Heller Allison Weiss recorded her fourth consecutive double-double and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia placed two other players in double figures as they held off Goldey Beacom College, 68-62 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball contest at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia tonight. The win was the Devils first conference win of the season, improving their league record to 1-2. USP improves to 3-2 overall. The Lightning fall to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league play. |

Cangelosi Named Sam Cozen Small College Player of the Week Tuesday, December 5, 2006 By Bob Heller University of the Sciences men's basketball player Eric Cangelosi was honored as the Sam Cozen Small College Player of the Week by the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association at their luncheon today at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Cangelosi, a senior forward, has started all four games for the Devils this year. Over the four games, Eric has scored 76 points (19.0 points per game) while shooting 43.1% from the field (22-for-51). Cangelosi has been the leading scorer for the Devils in each of their four games including a 23-point effort against West Chester University and a 20-point game against Wilmington College. |

Third period Rally keeps Township Undefeated Monday, December 4, 2006 By Mike Costantino Cameron Rowand snapped a 5-5 tie scoring on a rebound with forty seven seconds left in the game as Washington Township rallied from a 5-3 deficit and defeated Cherokee 6-5 at the Skate Zone. Colin Davis led the Township attack scoring two goals and handing out three assists. Davis scored a highlight goal on the power play early in the third period as he flew down the left wing and cutting into the slot faked the defenseman and somehow held the puck on his stick and quickly put the puck in the net. The game was back and forth as Davis put Township up 1-0, but Mat Maugeri on a nice pass from Frank Garvey tied the game at 1-1. Kyle Manny scored a goal late in the period and Cherokee took a 2-1 lead into the second period. |

Tropiano Nets Five in Clearview Win Monday, December 4, 2006 By Mike Costantino Joe Tropiano scored five goals to lead Clearview over Eastern 7-3 in Tier 1 action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. The game was only 2-1 heading into the third period, but Clearview blew the game open scoring five goals. Derrick Schemmel scored the only goal of the opening period to give Eastern a 1-0 lead, but Tropiano scored twice in the second period, once on a breakaway and one short-handed to put Cherokee up 2-1. Cherokee scored two goals in the first three minutes of the third period, with Sean Stamm converting on the power play to 4-1. Dan Drazen would bring his team back as he scored two goals in a matter of seconds, both on the power play to cut the lead to 4-3. But Tropiano scored the last three goals of the game, again short-handed, and his last one into an empty net as Clearview skated off with a 7-3 win. |
