Homecoming Game a Big Success for Winslow Township Saturday, October 7, 2006 By Clark Washington All of the preparation throughout the week done for a homecoming game can be exciting and a bit of a distraction for some of the players with so much emphasis focused on this high school event. On the other side of this situation, a player could be completely focused on their objective with this game and get pumped up knowing that a large crowd will be watching. The Eagles from Winslow Township definitely would achieve their goals as they were able to contain the powerful offensive minded Chargers from Timber Creek. In a battle between two teams from the Burlington/Olympic Liberty Division, the Eagles dominated both sides of the ball and were able to come away with the 30-0 victory. Ruben Johnson had two rushing touchdowns for Winslow Township. |

McDermott's Record Eight Points Power Rutgers-Camden past St. Elizabeth Saturday, October 7, 2006 By Mike Ballard Senior forward Aubree McDermott collected three goals and two assists for a school-record eight points and the Rutgers University-Camden women's soccer team exploded for six first-half goals on its way to a 7-0 victory over the College of St. Elizabeth in a non-conference Homecoming Day game here Saturday afternoon. That Farmingdale game also produced the Lady Raptors' last hat trick three goals by Allyson Jones before McDermott accomplished the feat against the Eagles. McDermott's eight points broke the previous school single-game mark of seven shared by Jasmine Philip and Mary Ann Martell. |

Lynx Terminate New Jersey; Advance to Second Round of Playoffs Saturday, October 7, 2006 By Rich Quiñones In a very familiar scene this season, the South Jersey Lynx and the New Jersey Terminators gave each other all they can handle on the gridiron. And as it has been all season long, the outcome did not change. The Lynx took their first step in their quest for a championship, as they held on for a 27-16 win in the first round of the NAFL playoffs on Saturday night at the Church Street Fields in Williamstown. Marty Cross, who was one of many Lynx players snubbed this week when the league announced its All-Star roster, had a brilliant game. The veteran quarterback rushed for a score, threw two touchdowns, and hauled in a touchdown reception for South Jersey (10-0), which improved to 10-0 and in the process defeated New Jersey for the third time this season and sixth straight time. |

Four for Fleagle as Township Breezes by Timber Creek Friday, October 6, 2006 By Mike Costantino Christian Fleagle scored four goals and Christian Biscardi added two as Washington Township defeated Timber Creek 7-2 in South Jersey High School Ice Hockey League action. Mike Schwer scored both goals for Timber Creek. You knew it was not going to be Timber Creek’s night as right after the opening face-off, Fleagle scored on his first shot, eleven seconds into the game. Four minutes later Township had the man advantage and Biscardi deflected a point shot by Marc Remini into the top shelf and the score was 2-0. |

Osterdahl acts Natural as Williamstown beats East Friday, October 6, 2006 By Mike Costantino Justin Osterdahl had a natural hat trick as Williamstown defeated Cherry Hill East 5-2 at Hollydell on Friday night. Osterdahl scored the only goal of the first period as Eric Finn hit him in stride streaking down the left side and Osterdahl went short-side for his first of three. Williamstown struck, capitalizing on the power play, as Osterdahl skated right up the slot and his blast made it 2-0. Forty seconds later, Osterdahl made it three in a row on a nice give and go play with Andrew Carusone. East showing some speed, but a young team as only twenty percent of the roster are seniors, finally responded as Evan Ascroff’s shot from the point beat Josh Haines, as he never saw the puck. Williamstown responded as defenseman Josh Haynes responded with a shot top shelf and the lead was 4-1. |

Highland Edges Cumberland Thursday, October 5, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty The month of October is that time of the year where high school students are getting ready for cooler temperatures, school dances and homecoming events. It's also that time when soccer teams know that less than two weeks is the cutoff date to qualify for the state tournament. Hovering around the requirements to make it into the playoffs were the Lady Tartans from Highland soccer team. In an important Tri-County Conference Royal Division game against Cumberland, Highland would post a 2-1 victory and pull within one game of evening their record to the five hundred level. |

Triton's Early Success Enough against Pennsauken Tuesday, October 3, 2006 By George Brookings In the Olympic Conference Patriot Division, every team by now knows that the Renegades from Shawnee's boys' soccer team have started out this season undefeated through nine games. Every game on their schedule, especially against teams from that division, is important to come away with the win and stay above five hundred percentage record. That scenario would set up today's match up between the Mustangs from Triton hosting Pennsauken. The Mustangs would score three times during the first half and led by two at the break. Pennsauken's efforts would come up short during the second half and Triton would pick up the 4-3 victory and earn an important division win. |

Harmon's Hat Trick Helps Sterling Stun Audubon Monday, October 2, 2006 By Jerome Michaels The month of September has been good for the boys' soccer team from Aubudon. The Green Wave had not loss a single game and was on top of the Colonial Conference Patriot Division with eight wins and one tie. The Silver Knights from Sterling were trying to halt their two game losing streak and they were trying to do so at Audubon. The home team would get the game's first goal, but it would be Sterling who took control of this game during the second half. The Knights' Ed Harmon scored three goals to lead his team and pick up the win by a 5-1 margin. |

Raptor of the Week: Marci Polite Monday, October 2, 2006 By Mike Ballard The Rutgers-Camden volleyball team went 3-1 during the week and set a program single-season record for victories, with freshman Marci Polite playing a key role. The 6-0 middle hitter collected 50 kills, 19 blocks, 11 aces, 23 digs and four assists in the Lady Raptors' four matches. Included in her week was a 20-kill performance in a win at Bryn Athyn College of the New Church on Sept. 27. Rutgers-Camden made program history again during a 3-1 week which included the team’s first win ever in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match (a 3-2 victory at William Paterson Sept. 26) and another 3-2 win over Bryn Athyn College of the New Church (Sept. 27). The week ended with a tri-match split at Cabrini College (Sept. 30) which allowed the Raptors to set a single-season victory record and a mark for the team's longest winning streak. |
