Barons' Offense Explodes Against the Rage Sunday, June 11, 2006 By Josh Hakala The Ocean City Barons finally found their offensive stride with a 4-0 win at the Reading Rage (2-4-1, 7 points) on Sunday night. Adam Sternberger (Mays Landing, NJ) scored two goals and set up Byron Carmichael's (Lumberton, NJ) second goal of the year to lead the Barons to their first-ever victory in Reading. Second half substitute Richard Baker (Ocean City, NJ) added the fourth and final goal of the match. Issey Mahalo (Brighton, MA) made seven saves, three of them in a frantic 20-second sequence in the second half, on his way to his second clean sheet of the season. The Barons (3-1-3, 12 points) are now unbeaten in their last four matches, and find themselves one point behind the first place Westchester Flames in the Northeast Division. |

S.Duncan Homers Twice Again in Thunder 8-5 Win Sunday, June 11, 2006 By Dan Loney For the second straight day, Thunder LF Shelley Duncan launched a pair home runs to lead the Thunder to a win. Sunday, the home runs and five RBI helped Trenton beat Reading by an 8-5 score. Reading (25-36) jumped out to a 1st Inning with four runs off Thunder starter Jeff Karstens. After a leadoff single, Phillies OF Joey hammond ripped a two-run homer for the lead. An RBI single by RF Gary Burnham and a sacrifice fly from 1B Brandon Gemoll made it a 4-0 game. The Thunder got runs back in the 2nd and 3rd innings on a bases-loaded walk to SS J.T. Stotts and the first of the two homers by Shelley Duncan. R-Phils 2B Carlos Leon hit a solo homer off Karstens in the 4th Inning for a 5-2 lead. But Karstens (2-0) settled down after that and worked six innings for the win. He allowed five runs on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. |

Seventh Straight Title for the Lady Quakers from Moorestown Saturday, June 10, 2006 By Stephanie Wright Every season is a memorable one, but it's much sweeter when a team claims the division title, the group title and also the state championship...for the seventh time! Moorestown's girls' lacrosse team completely dominated the tournament of champions by outscoring their opponent 107-21 and capturing their seventh straight New Jersey State Title by completely dominating the Blue Devils from Shore Regional. The senior led team won just about every aspect of the game and rolled onto their 20-4 victory. Brooke Cantwell continued to show off her ability to come up with different ways of scoring finished the game with seven goals and four assists. Gulia Giordano and Lauren McAfee also put the ball into the net several times as a total of nine different Lady Quakers scored goals for Moorestown. |

Thunder Slam Three Homers To Beat Reading, 5-3 Saturday, June 10, 2006 By Dan Loney Shelley Duncan hit a pair of solo homers, along with one from Gabe Lopez, as the Thunder beat Reading, 5-3, on Saturday. The two homers give Duncan the Eastern League lead in home runs with 13. Trenton (30-31) scored a run in each of the first three innings off Reading starter Zach Segovia. In the 1st Inning, Eric Duncan doubled home Lopez, who led off the game with a single. Lopez then added an RBI single in the 2nd Inning to score 3B Kevin Howard, who had been hit by a pitch. Shelley Duncan then led off the 3rd Inning with a solo homer, his 12th of the season. |

Thunder Blanked By Baysox, 1-0 Thursday, June 8, 2006 By Dan Loney Bowie's James Johnson worked eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits, to lead Bowie to a 1-0 win over the Thunder at Waterfront Park on Thursday night. The loss drops Trenton back under .500 at 29-30. Bowie (26-32) scored the game's only run in the 2nd Inning off Trenton starter Phil Hughes. 1B Leo daigle doubled with one out. 3B Tripper Johnson followed with an RBI single. Hughes (2-3) took the loss allowing one run on five hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out four. J.B. Cox kept the Thunder in the game with three shutout innings of relief following Hughes. |

Duncan's HR in 8th Gets Thunder 3-2 Win Over Bowie Tuesday, June 6, 2006 By Dan Loney Shelley Duncan ripped a two-run homer in the 8th Inning to propel the Thunder to a 3-2 win over Bowie on Tuesday night. The win snapped a two-game losing skid for Trenton and moved them back to .500 (29-29). Trailing 2-1 in the 8th Inning, Thunder 2B Gabe Lopez led off the inning with a double. After a strikeout and a ground out, Duncan homered to left off Bowie's Nick McCurdy (1-1) for a 3-2 lead. It was his 11th home run of the season. The home run made a winner out of Trenton reliever Jeff Kennard, who allowed on unearned run in two innings. Kennard (1-0) allowed one hit with two strikeouts. |
