South Jersey Baseball: Sunday, August 22, 2004 By Don Delaney The Camden Riversharks had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon as the Atlantic City Surf salvaged the final game of a four-game series with a 4-3 victory at Campbell’s Field. Al Benjamin and Melvin Rosario hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth inning for the Surf to break a 1-1 tie. The two home runs ruined a good day for Camden starter Ben Simon, who had allowed just one run and three hits through his first eight innings of work. |

The Riversharks turned a Raul Marval error into five unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on their way to a 12-8 win over the Atlantic City Surf on Saturday night at Campbell’s Field. Troy Cameron's two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning proved to be the difference as the Riversharks scored six times to eliminate an early 6-2 deficit. |
South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, August 19, 2004 By Chuck Betson Atlantic City Surf catcher Melvin Rosario walked to force in the winning run for the second night in a row as the Surf defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors 4-3 at Sandcastle Stadium on Thursday night. The win gives the Surf their third straight win in their last at-bat and their eleventh of the season. It also is the last time the Pennsylvania Road Warriors’ franchise will visit the Sandcastle as next season they will be replaced by the Lancaster Barnstormers. |
Ice Hockey Spotlight: Wednesday, August 18, 2004 By Al Cohen The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League are proud to announce a new fund-raising endeavor for Big Brothers Big Sisters that will allow hundreds of children and their BBBS mentors to attend a Phantoms game together at the end of the 2004-05 season. From now through April 3, Phantoms sales executives will end each phone transaction by asking fans for a voluntary $1 donation to benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters End of the Year Celebration. The same will occur following Phantoms ticket purchases at the Wachovia Complex box offices. |
Soccer Spotlight: Wednesday, August 18, 2004 By David Deal Philadelphia KiXX Executive Vice President/General Manager Greg Bibb announced today that the club has scheduled an open tryout and an invitational combine for players (18 and older), interested in showcasing their skills and possibly becoming a member of the Philadelphia KiXX. The open tryout will be held on September 9-10 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm ET, while the combine is slated for September 11-12 with training scheduled for 9:00 am to 1:00 pm ET on Saturday and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm ET on Sunday. Both sessions will be held at Tri-State Sports, the team's official practice facility. |

South Jersey Baseball: Tuesday, August 17, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth before winning 8-7 in the tenth against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors on Tuesday night at Sandcastle Stadium. Surf catcher Melvin Rosario’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth completed the team’s comeback from as much as seven runs down. In the tenth it was Jose Velazquez’s one-out double to score Raul Marval that gave the Surf the win. It was the ninth time the Surf won in their last at-bat this season. |
South Jersey Baseball: Monday, August 16, 2004 By Bill Cook The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that INF Caonabo Cosme has been transferred to the Columbus Clippers (AAA) of the International League. His roster spot will be left open for the time being. Cosme, who was activated from the disabled list on August 5th with a strained hamstring, has a .308 BA, 1 HR, and 5 RBI in 14 games with the Thunder. He began the season with Triple-A Columbus in which he had a .248 BA, 3 HR, 32 RBI in 61 games for the Clippers. |
