South Jersey Baseball: Monday, August 16, 2004 By Bill Cook The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that INF Caonabo Cosme has been transferred to the Columbus Clippers (AAA) of the International League. His roster spot will be left open for the time being. Cosme, who was activated from the disabled list on August 5th with a strained hamstring, has a .308 BA, 1 HR, and 5 RBI in 14 games with the Thunder. He began the season with Triple-A Columbus in which he had a .248 BA, 3 HR, 32 RBI in 61 games for the Clippers. The transfer of Cosme to Columbus comes in conjunction to the promotion of INF Andy Phillips to the New York Yankees. Phillips is filling the open roster spot due to the 4-game suspension of New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez. Cosme, who was signed by the Yankees as a free agent in the off-season, played for the Tennessee Smokies (AA) of the Southern League in 2003. He was a Southern League All-Star last season batting .273, 6 HR, 45 RBI in 132 games for the St. Louis Cardinals affiliate.
