The Atlantic City Surf (29-19) made it eight straight wins in a row and sixteen of the last eighteen at the Sandcastle with a 12-7 win Sunday afternoon against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors (8-40). The win, coupled with the Somerset Patriots and Camden Riversharks’ losses give the Surf sole possession of first place in the Atlantic League South Division.

The CardSharks defeated the visiting Staten Island Xtreme 38-6 on Saturday night at Historic Boardwalk Hall. The ‘Sharks (8-5) defense led the way with 4 sacks and a safety, while holding Staten Island to just one score. The CardSharks move closer to clinching a playoff berth with their fifth consecutive victory. The ‘Sharks travel to Florence, South Carolina to battle the Carolina Rays on July 3rd, while the Xtreme (3-10) will travel to Lexington to face the Horsemen.

The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at Sandcastle Stadium Saturday night, 6-4. The win was the Surf’s third in a row over the Warriors and seventh straight overall. Surf shortstop Raul Marval provided the big hit with a three-run home run. Marval’s fourth home run put the Surf up 6-4 and capped a five run sixth inning. Second baseman Demetrius Heath drove in run, scored a run, and stole his league leading thirtieth base.

The CardSharks fell on the road to the Fort Wayne Freedom on Saturday, April 24 by a score of 63-54. The Freedom (3-2) jumped ahead early, and managed to fend off a fourth quarter comeback by the CardSharks (1-3). “We came out slow in the first half against a very good football team,” stated General Manager and Head Coach Mike Siani. “When you fall behind like that, it makes it tough to come back and win on the road.”

Surf Sweep Doubleheader

The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors for the second time Friday night at Sandcastle Stadium, 2-1. The Surf swept the doubleheader, winning both games by one run. Surf reliever Damon Ponce DeLeon recorded the win in both games. Surf designated hitter Ozzie Timmons drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the third. Raul Marval doubled in the winning run in the bottom half of the inning after the Road Warriors tied it at one in the top of the inning. Chad Alexander led the Surf with two hits.

McKinnie Awarded Most Valuable Player in the Senior All-Star Football Classic

It was an opportunity for some of the graduating high school seniors to showcase their talents on the field for the last time as high school football players. Some will move onto a higher learning institution in hopes of extending their football talents at the college level, and some will fully concentrate on their education giving football a rest. For Woodbury's Marvin McKinnie who will be attending Mesabi Range Junior College, his performance alone provided excitement for all to enjoy with his dazzling display of now you see me, now you don't. This time at Eastern High School, the 14th Annual South Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame game saw team White defeat team Blue 42-12 in the Adam Taliaferro Foundation All-Star Football Classic played at Frank J. McAleer Stadium. McKinnie accepted the honor proudly when he was named the Most Valuable Player for team White.

Delgado Leads Surf to Sweep of Pride

The Atlantic City Surf completed the sweep and stretched the winning streak to four games as they defeated the Nashua Pride at Sandcastle Stadium Thursday night, 4-3. Surf first baseman Dario Delgado singled in Demetrius Heath for the game winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth. Delgado led the Surf, collecting three hits, driving in two runs, and scoring twice. One of his hits was his eleventh home run of the season. Chad Alexander and Ozzie Timmons each drove in a run. The Surf received excellent starting pitching from Ray Davis.

The CardSharks will host the Staten Island Xtreme on Saturday night looking to take another big step in their quest for an NIFL playoff berth. The NIFL’s two newest teams have met once this season, with the ‘Sharks defeating the Xtreme 57-36 at Boardwalk Hall in May. The CardSharks won their fourth game in a row last week, defeating the Carolina Rays in Florence, by a 46-35 score. The ‘Sharks have won 6 of their last 7 and are making a strong push for a spot in the NIFL postseason tournament, hoping to win against Staten Island.

In what should be the high watermark for the first half, the Atlantic City Surf will play the Pennsylvania Road Warriors in a four-game, promotion-laden series. Along with exciting baseball, as the Surf seek their first first-half South Division title in franchise history, fans can expect giveaways galore at the Sandcastle. Friday night will feature the Surf’s first doubleheader at home, beginning at 4:05 PM. The second game will be followed by another exciting fireworks show, sponsored by Resorts Rendezvous. The Sandcastle will also host the MBCA celebration of Atlantic City’s 150th anniversary, sponsored by Fleet Bank and Fox-Rothschild.

The Philadelphia KiXX announced today that midfielders Andy Guastaferro and Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar, and defender Mauricio Vincello have been selected by the Chicago Storm in the 2004 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Expansion Draft. The draft was held via teleconference on Wednesday, June 23 at 3:00 pm ET. Guastaferro, who made his professional indoor debut with the KiXX last season, was the third overall selection by Chicago. The native of Canandaigua, NY concluded his rookie season with 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points in 34 contests.

The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Nashua Pride in the rain at Sandcastle Stadium on Tuesday night, 8-7. The Surf held off multiple comeback attempts by the Pride. They finally took the lead in the bottom of the seventh for good as the rain started falling when Surf catcher Melvin Rosario singled in Chad Alexander for the game winning run.

The CardSharks won their fourth straight game Monday night against the Carolina Rays in Florence, South Carolina by a score of 46-35. The win puts the ‘Sharks (7-5) into a tie with the Tupelo Fire Ants for fifth place in the Atlantic Conference Playoff race. The Rays (5-5) now drop from sixth to tenth place.
