South Jersey Baseball: Saturday, June 26, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at Sandcastle Stadium Saturday night, 6-4. The win was the Surf’s third in a row over the Warriors and seventh straight overall. Surf shortstop Raul Marval provided the big hit with a three-run home run. Marval’s fourth home run put the Surf up 6-4 and capped a five run sixth inning. Second baseman Demetrius Heath drove in run, scored a run, and stole his league leading thirtieth base. The Surf received a complete game by starter Andy Zwirchitz, as he picked up his fourth win. Zwirchitz gave up four runs on nine hits, he struck out three and walked two. Road Warriors starter Luis Arroyo suffered his fifth loss while hurling a complete game as well. He gave up six runs, struck out four, walked four, and allowed nine hits in his eight innings of work. The Surf go for the sweep of the Road Warriors tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 PM. The Surf will throw Kyle Goldwater against Pennsylvania’s Jason Saenz. Fans 15 and older will receive a Surf mouse pad courtesy of Gift of Life. The Surf will also be honoring five different teachers from five different counties during their first annual Teacher of the Year awards. Presenting the awards will be Ms. Joyce Powell, the Vice President of NJEA. |
