High School Baseball: Sunday, June 6, 2004 By Vincent Lewis Baseball continues for high school players from the Camden County area as they participate in the Camden County All-Star game this year held at Campbell's Field in Camden, New Jersey. Getting back to the basic of baseball and its fundamentals, this game featured no home runs but batters coming through with timely hits and execution on the field. From the West all-stars, Zach Jakubowski had three hits and two stolen bases in the game. But in the bottom of the third inning, the East all-stars broke the game open scoring five runs to take a five run lead. JP Larmore and Frank Wilczynski combined for five hits, five runs and five runs batted in. Camden County East went on to win this game by a 12-5 margin. |

With apologies to a certain WWE superstar, Graig White has been picked to handle the off-season preparations for the Camden High School Football team. "The feeling I get from walking through the halls and being around the guys is one that I can't describe. This may sound corny, but this is actually one of my dream jobs. Working with Coach Luther Howard and his staff will prove to be exciting, this is the fourth school we have worked with together and to be honest, I would follow this guy into battle anytime." |
South Jersey Baseball: Sunday, June 6, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to knock off the Long Island Ducks, 2-1 at The Sandcastle on Sunday afternoon. The Surf continued their hot play in front of 2,132 fans, winning their fifth game in a row. Long Island has now dropped four straight. The win puts the Surf in first place. Surf designated hitter Dario Delgado came through with the game winning hit, driving in shortstop Orlando Miller from second with a single to center. |
South Jersey Baseball: Saturday, June 5, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf completed the three game sweep of the Bears in a rain shortened game at The Sandcastle, 8-1 on Saturday afternoon. For the second night in a row, the Surf jumped out to an early lead, but this time with the help of the rain, they were able to hold on. The rain came with two outs in the top of the sixth and that is when the tarp came out and the game was ended. |
Arena Football: Saturday, June 5, 2004 By Matthew Gionta The CardSharks defeated the Evansville Blue Cats 31-27 at Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, June 5. With the win, the ‘Sharks improve to 5-5 on the year, while the Blue Cats fall to 4-5. The game was a defensive struggle with the teams scoring a combined 58 points. In the first meeting between the teams, 92 points were scored in a 52-40 ‘Sharks win. |
South Jersey Baseball: Friday, June 4, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf outlasted the Newark Bears at The Sandcastle in a fourteen inning marathon, 6-5 on Friday night. The Surf received the big hit from the Atlantic League leading hitter left fielder Ozzie Timmons as he singled in right fielder Jason Law in the bottom of the fourteenth. The Bears clawed their way back from a 5-1 deficit, tying the score in the ninth with a two-run homerun by Bear's first baseman Michael Coleman. |
South Jersey Soccer: Thursday, June 3, 2004 By John Thompson A brief thunderstorm 45 minutes before kick off on Tuesday night did little to unsettle the Barons as they found the scoring touch again against amateur team Allied SC who are the National Indoor Amateur Champions playing for the first time in the US Open Cup. With this 5-0 win the Barons will face a much tougher test in the next round as they have been drawn against Syracuse Salty Dogs from the A-League, Americas second tier of professional soccer beneath the M.L.S. The winner of this 2nd round tie will get a crack at one of the 10 M.L.S. teams in the Third round. The Barons are now 5-0-1, there best start to a season since the clubs inception back in 1997. The club has drawn the best local players from South Jersey and Philadelphia this season. The team have amassed Twenty goals for, and only Three against, in their first six games of the season. |
South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, June 3, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf came back late in the game to defeat the Rickey Hendersonless Newark Bears, 7-3 at the Sandcastle on Thursday night. The Surf trailed 3-0 heading into the seventh but scored seven runs in the next two innings to steal a victory and improve their record to 13-11. Henderson was not with the team because of a personal family emergency in California. |
South Jersey Baseball: Wednesday, June 2, 2004 By Chuck Betson Atlantic City split a double-header with Somerset on Tuesday night, with each game lasting seven innings. The Surf won Game 1, 7-2, behind a complete game from Kyle Goldwater (1-0). In seven innings, Goldwater allowed seven hits, a walk, and fanned seven. The Surf scored twice in the first and four more times in the sixth. The sixth inning featured RBI hits from Ozzie Timmons, Raul Marval and Gary Johnson. |
