South Jersey Ice Hockey: Jaguars Win Philadelphia Silver Stick Regional Tournament Sunday, September 15, 2002 By Tom Basehore Jaguars Midget A team won the Philadelphia Silver Stick Regional Tournament Midget A division on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Quakers. The team now plays in the North American Championship January 17th-19th in Sarnia, Ontario. The Jaguars went 5-0, defeating the Delco Phantoms (Delaware County Pa), Ramapo Saints(Ramapo, NJ), East Coast Eagles (Raleigh, NC), American Eagles (Brick, NJ) and the Quakers allowing only 3 goals while scoring 21 goals. The Jaguars play in New Jersey Youth Hockey League, their home rink is Highridge Ice Arena in Gibbsboro NJ. |
High School Field Hockey: Pitman Shuts Out Audubon For First Win of Season Saturday, September 14, 2002 By Crystal Parker Right in the middle of the first weekend of high school sports, it was field hockey instead of football that was played Saturday afternoon at Audubon High School. Today's action matched up the Lady Panthers from Pitman going up against the Green Wave. Pitman was not very hospitable as they marched in and right out of Audubon with a shut out victory. Jaci Myers, Tina Weil and Danielle Soliai all scored for Pitman as they posted a three nothing shut out. |

This tournament normally features several of the top Group 4 schools in the state. This year the participating schools were Eastern, Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West, Memorial, Columbia, Fairlawn, Wayne Hills, Hackensack, West Windsor South and Clifton. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 14, 2002 By Art Redd After a host of Friday night games took center stage to kick off the 2002 high school football season, it was the West Deptford Eagles traveling to Woodbury's turn to be in the spotlight for the second day of football. West Deptford tested the Thundering Herd's defense early with their ground attack with success throughout the game. Junior fullback Tom Walls used his entire 225 lb frame to pound out 153 yards on the ground and scored three rushing touchdowns. The Eagles established a lead they never relinquished and posted a 30-13 win over Woodbury in a Colonial Conference game. |

So when the New Egypt girl's soccer team finally made it to Audubon High School for their non-league matchup, the long anticipated wait was finally over. Audubon wasted little time getting on the scoreboard and scoring often in the first half. The Audubon Lady Wave recorded five goals from five different players in the first half to pull away from the Warriors. Audubon finished the game scoring 6 goals to shut out New Egypt. |
Event Spotlight: Flyers Sign Forward Simon Gagne to a Two-Year Contract Wednesday, September 11, 2002 By Joe Klueg The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed 6'0", 190-pound forward Simon Gagne to a two-year contract, according to club President and General Manager Bob Clarke. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed. "We think that Simon is one of the better young players in the game and certainly has a chance to be a terrific player in the National Hockey League for the Flyers," said Clarke in making the announcement. "We waited a long time, me and my family, to get a deal and I'm very happy that we were able to get it done before training camp," said Gagne. |
