Event Spotlight: Wings Need Hollywood Ending To Defeat Knighthawks Friday, April 20, 2001 By Mike Costantino Tom " Hollywood " Marechek scored with one minute and twenty- nine seconds remaining in the game to break an 11-11 tie. With that goal, the Wings defeated the Rochester Knighthawks 12-11 and advanced to the NLL championship game next Saturday night. Rochester broke out on top first scoring two goals and controlling play for the first half of the period. The Wings would get on the scoreboard on a two-man advantage and Marechek would make it 2-1. Jake Bergey tied the game at 2-2 on a nice pass from Mark Millon from behind the net. |
Event Spotlight: Philadelphia Edges Knighthawks: Wings Advance to Championships Friday, April 20, 2001 PRESS RELEASE PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Wings advanced to the NLL championship game with a 12-11 win Friday at the First Union Center in front of 10,259 fans. This was the team's first home playoff game since 1998, when the team won the league title. The lead switched several times throughout the game, but Tom Marechek put in the game-winner with 1:29 left in the fourth quarter .The Wings will face the winner of Saturday's semifinal matchup between Washington and the defending champion Toronto Rock. |
High School Volleyball: Washington Township Spikes a Big One Friday, April 20, 2001 By John Daglian The Washington Township Boys Volleyball team completed a monster week on Friday afternoon by knocking off Olympic powerhouse Cherry Hill East in two games: 15 - 11, 15 - 9. Earlier in the week they had beaten another Olympic power, Eastern, in three games. The two wins show proof that Township is a team to be reckoned with this season. Cherry Hill East, which is in a rebuilding year, suffered just their second loss to a South Jersey team in their history of volleyball. |

She has been fortunate to not have any serious injuries that would affect her game, but continues to train to keep herself in the best athletic condition possible. |
Event Spotlight: WNBA Star Sheryl Swoopes Basketball Camp Monday, April 16, 2001 Press Release WNBA MVP and 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist Sheryl Swoopes of the Houston Comets will host a 1 day basketball camp for girls ages 7-17 on April 21, 2001 at Rutgers University, Louis Brown Athletic Center. Swoopes will be joined by members of the Rutgers Women Basketball team including Tasha Pointer. Dana Kovich, Director of Swish Basketball Co, will direct the camp. The camp will include skill demonstrations and lectures by Sheryl Swoopes. It will focus on fundamentals, ball-handling, offensive and defensive techniques as well as rebounding skills. |
