High School Ice Hockey: Anderson and Marano Lead Township over Clearview Friday, October 6, 2000 By Mike Costantino Buddy Anderson had three goals and three assists and Eric Marano added three goals to pace Washington Township to an 11-4 romp over defending league champion Clearview. The game was played before a standing room only crowd at Hollydell along with an overflow crowd in the foyer that included Township and Mantua policemen. Taking into consideration the large crowd and the heated rivalry between these teams and fans, once the uniformed officials arrived there were few incidents. |
High School Football: Strong Second Half Powers Sterling Past Gateway Friday, October 6, 2000 By Ed Benkin The Silver Knights of Sterling entered Friday Night's Colonial Conference contest as clear favorites against Gateway. The Knights entered the game with a 2-1 mark, and a victory over the 1-2 Gators would keep Sterling in contention in both the Colonial and the Group 2 playoff race. Sterling needed two big plays in the first half to set the stage for a dominating second half, as they defeated Gateway, 34-19. The two teams were tied, 13-13, at the half, and Sterling coach Todd Green was grateful his squad wasn't trailing as they went to the locker room. |

The Mustangs were playing with a sense of urgency as they were looking to pick up that elusive first victory. The Crusaders were looking to steal one on the road against a hungry Mustang team. The recently struggling Mustangs showed much improvement, but would that be enough to win? |
High School Soccer: Cherry Hill East Blanks Camden Catholic Friday, October 6, 2000 By Vincent Lewis When Camden Catholic visited Cherry Hill East on Friday, it was their chance to move up in the standings and beat a well respected Cougar's soccer team. After winning an easy game against Gloucester Township Tech, the Irish boy's soccer team had their sites set on East. But, you don't become a well respected team until you beat those good teams as Cherry Hill East did against Camden Catholic. In a very defensive and physical game, the Cougar's posted a 1-0 victory to increase their undefeated record to 6-0-1. |
High School Ice Hockey: Eastern Impressive in their Opener Friday, October 6, 2000 By Mike Pontonio Adam Roy and Anthony Orner each scored three goals as Eastern opened its season by defeating Lenape 12-2 in the first varsity game played at the new Flyers Skate Zone. The Skate Zone replaces the Coliseum as one of the homes for the South Jersey High School Ice Hockey League. Losing top players Cianfrani and Schellenhammer to graduation this should be a rebuilding year for the Vikings. But with an infusion of new blood and enthusiasm this team could surprise. |
High School Volleyball: Cherry Hill East Serves Their Way Past Moorestown Thursday, October 5, 2000 By Crystal Parker With the USA women's volleyball team winning a metal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the results of that victory would be felt all over the country. The girl's volleyball season was well underway in South Jersey and winning the gold would the minds of most throughout this season. The Moorestown Lady Quakers were going up against the Lady Cougars from Cherry Hill East at Moorestown High School. The Cougars would use their hard serving skills to power their way past Moorestown, 15-3, 15-9. |
