Athlete Spotlight: Friday, January 7, 2000

Over the last 3 months, Ron Dayne broke the NCAA career rushing record on November 13th, won the Heisman Trophy on December 11th, won the MVP (second time) for the Rose Bowl on January 1st, and on January 7th, came home to visit his local schools.

High School Ice Hockey: Friday, January 7, 2000

Eric Boehm scored with less than three minutes remaining in the game, as Rancocas Valley upset Collingswood 3-2 in a tier two SJHSIHL game played at Hollydell on Friday. Collingswood took the lead as they scored right after a power-play expired, as Smitley scored with Eric Sooy assisting. That was the only goal of the first period, as both teams played it close to the vest and played solid defense, each waiting for the other to make a mistake.

Joe Gori had four goals and an assist, and Derek Poletis added two goals as Washington Township defeated Cinnaminson 8-2 in a SJHSIHL game played on Friday night at Hollydell. Tom Wood scored his first of two goals to give Cinnaminson the early 1-0 lead, as he converted on the power play with John Oliver and Bill DeVoce assisting. Township would tie the game at 1-1 with just over five minutes left in the period. After a good play by Dan Frantantoro to keep the puck in, Eric Marano made a great pass on the tape to Gori, who banged home his first of four.

High School Girls Basketball: Thursday, January 6, 2000

The highly anticipated, mostly hyped Y2K bug has come and gone without any major problems. The reason why, everyone was prepared ahead of time before the big event. The Lady Lancers' game plan was prepared well in advance as they coasted to a 51-36 win at Moorestown High School. Holy Cross came into this game tied with the Lady Quakers atop the Burlington County Liberty Division.

High School Boys Basketball: Thursday, January 6, 2000

In boys' basketball on Thursday, the Overbrook Rams defeated rival sister school Edgewood 72-48. One part of the Edgewood Eagles' game plan was to get Jamar Smith in foul trouble and they succeeded, but John Galaszewski scored 15, and Bryan Foster scored 17. This helped to pick up the offensive play for the Rams. Edgewood missed a lot of lay-ups.

Winning Ways: Wednesday, January 5, 2000

As a Conditioning Coach, a lot of time and effort goes into creating protocols that will enhance an athlete's ability to perform. None of this will matter if you don't have your athlete's head into it. No matter how well we prepare our athletes physically, optimal performance will not happen if the athlete does not believe in his or her preparation. When this happens, it is safe to assume that the athlete is lacking self-confidence.

High School Girls Basketball: Tuesday, January 4, 2000

The Lady Mustangs of Triton traveled to Edgewood to play in an Olympic Conference basketball game. The game started off looking like it was going to be a blow out. Edgewood scored the first eight points to take an 8-0 lead, but Triton did not give in, led by #4 H. Coleman. Coleman scored a total of 20 points. Edgewood still led at the end of the first quarter by the score of 10-6. The half ended with Edgewood still leading by the score of 17-15.
