By Boog Williams The Lady Mustangs of Triton traveled to Edgewood to play in an Olympic Conference basketball game. The game started off looking like it was going to be a blow out. Edgewood scored the first eight points to take an 8-0 lead, but Triton did not give in, led by #4 H. Coleman. Coleman scored a total of 20 points. Edgewood still led at the end of the first quarter by the score of 10-6. The half ended with Edgewood still leading by the score of 17-15. The scorers for the Edgewood Eagles in the half were #32 A. Switenko (10), #55 T. Williams (5), and #50 S. Alston (1). Scoring for the Mustangs were #4 H. Coleman (6), #11 J. Cardella (5) and #33 D. Logandro (4). In the second half, Edgewood jumped out to a 5 point lead, but the Mustangs just kept coming back. Guard #4 Coleman had some nice penetration to the basket and came off of some nice screens to hit a 12 foot jump shot to bring the Mustangs back. With 44 seconds left in the third quarter, #33 Logandro hit a big 3 pointer to tie the game at 27. Edgewood in-bounded the ball and #32 Swintenko scored with 32 seconds left. This gave Edgewood a 29-27 lead at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Edgewood's #50 S. Alston hit a big shot from the right corner to give the Eagles a 33-29 lead. With 55 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Triton got its first lead of the game on a driving shot to the hole from #4 Coleman. Edgewood quickly came down the court and #32 Switenko was fouled in the act of shooting. Switenko missed the first shot, but made the second to tie the game at 39. Triton could not score and Edgewood got the ball back with 5 seconds left. Coach Kirkwood called time out and set up a play, but the shot was missed, and headed into overtime. Scoring in the quarter for the Eagles were #32 Switenko (9), #50 Alston (8), #53 A. Morrow (1) and #55 Williams (4). Scoring for the Mustangs were #4 Coleman (12), #11 Cardella (3), #22 K. Baxter (4) and #33 Logandro (5). In Overtime, Triton's #11 Cardella was the big scorer as she scored the first 5 points and a total of 7 points in the OT. The first was a big 3-point play. Cardella was fouled in the act of shooting and made the freethrow. This gave the Mustangs the lead of 42-39. As Edgewood was bringing the ball up the court, #11 Cardella stole a pass and went in on a layup. This made the score 44-39. Edgewood's #51 J. Callahan hit a big shot to close the score to 46-41. Edgewood's #53 Morrow had a big rebound and put the shot back up and was fouled. Morrow made the freethrow to cut the score to 48-46. With 8 seconds left in the overtime, #4 Coleman was fouled. Edgewood called time out. Coleman went to the line and made both shots to give the Triton Mustangs their first win of the season. The score ended Triton 50, Edgewood 46. The Mustangs improve their record to 1-4 as Edgewood dropped to 1-5. In the overtime, Triton's #11 Cardella scored 7, #22 Baxter scored 2 and #4 Coleman scored 2. For Edgewood, #53 Morrow scored 3, #51 Callahan scored 2, and #32 Switenko scored 2.
