Opening season for high school football began on Friday night where teams like Williamstown, Gateway, Delsea, Eastern and Kingsway started their season with victories. Shawnee and Highland were looking to join those teams on Saturday at Highland High School. It would be the Renegades who would not only start the season off with a victory, but also shut down Highland's offense. Shawnee would have little trouble behind starting quarterback Mike Connelly and record a 28-7 victory.

The Edgewood Girls' Varsity soccer team is in the process of rebuilding. There are four freshmen in the starting lineup and four sophomores. Seniors Kate Taylor, Kerri Buchanan, and underclassmen Alison Leach and Keeper Denise Prosser lead the team. Although the ladies are 0 and 5, there has been visible improvement in every game. A team is developing; the Eagles will surely become a force to reckon with this year and in years to come.

High School Volleyball: Saturday, September 19, 1998
By Forrest Robleto
An exhausted group of girls from Hackensack played as much volleyball as the tournament rules allowed to finally overcome a weary team from Eastern. They finished without their best player and one of only three seniors, Gwen Scenal who sprained her ankle in the third game of pool play. Suzanne Vacek stepped up and carried the Comets to a very exciting win.

Two expectant teams took the field at Overbrook today, with the temperature hot under a bright blue sky. Both Rancocas Valley and Overbrook were picked by various local sports prognosticators to contend for the Olympic Conference Patriot Division title. The game was especially significant for Overbrook's head coach, Harvey Miller, as well as their Senior running back, Nana Gillett-Spio. This was the first game for Coach Miller, who made his return from having to take a leave of absence last year after suffering a heart attack. Gillett-Spio, transferred from Edgewood High School, remembered the last time he played on this field was on Thanksgiving, when his team was being blown out by Overbrook 34-0.

This was a game where the home team would have the edge with the support from their fans. At Cherokee High School, there weren't many people to watch Pennsauken and Cherokee participate in this Olympic conference boy's soccer match. The Chiefs had to provide their own fans and enthusiasm from the remaining players on the sidelines. Once the first goal was scored, Cherokee had an easy time and defeated Pennsauken 6-0 to remain undefeated.
