High School Wrestling: Saturday, February 12, 2005 By Anthony Phillips With the seedings already established for the upcoming wrestling tournament, two teams finishing out the regular season was Eastern and Cherry Hill West. Both of these squads were leading their division in the Olympic Conference but only one of those teams qualifying for the post season. The Vikings from Eastern were seeded fifth in the Group 4 bracket, but in today’s matchup against Lions showed how focused they were against the leaders in the Patriot Division. Winning their first 5 matches, four of them on pins, Eastern established a lead they never relinquished. The Cougars would make the score respectable at the end as Eastern walked off the mat with a 45-30 marginal victory. |
High School Wrestling: Thursday, January 27, 2005 By Anthony Phillips Not too often we get to see two evenly matched teams take the mat when both school's wrestling programs are expected to come away with the victory. Pound for pound, muscle against muscle and strength for strength could be described by the match between Audubon and Deptford. These two undefeated teams with individual records at stake, there will be someone coming away with the loss but the team as a whole would be first on the minds of the coaching staff. After Audubon's Carmen Fanelli decision tied the match with four bouts remaining, Brandon Baxter and Matt Ahearn put the Green Wave ahead for good with pins in the 140 and 145 bout. Audubon walked away with a 37-25 decision and increased their record to 8-0. |
High School Wrestling: Wednesday, January 12, 2005 By David Benson The Cherry Hill East wrestling team reeled off 7 straight victories en route to a 33-30 home victory against sister school Cherry Hill West on Wednesday night. And all the success was due to a team concept of sacrifice and some well timed leadership displayed by one of its leaders early in the meet. It was the first time in Cougar head coach Scott Wright’s tenure that East was able to walk off the mat victorious. The meet had all the drama and sub plots a good rivalry has in any sport. |
