Event Spotlight: Slap Shot Stars Arrive in Philadelphia to Participate in Fundraiser for Former Co-Star Thursday, March 20, 2003 Press Release The Sparkle Twins will drop the opening puck and Tim “Dr. Hook” Mc Cracken and Andre “Poodle” Lussier will appear at upcoming Philadelphia Phantoms game to raise funds for former Slap Shot co-star, Louise Arters. The Philadelphia Phantoms are hosting the fundraising efforts of a local sports radio show personality and a California businessperson during their March 23, 2003 contest at the First Union Spectrum. David W. Unkle, of The Topcat Sports Show on WNJC 1360-AM and staff writer for South Jersey Sports On-Line is teaming up with Ken Blake in raising funds for Slap Shot actress Louise Arters. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1985, Arters lives her life in a wheelchair, unable to continue a career in modeling and acting. The goal of the silent auction is to raise funds to purchase a specially equipped van to facilitate Arters mobility and independence along with raising the public’s awareness of Multiple Sclerosis. Arters, along with her sister Janet, were the blonde groupies of the Charlestown Chiefs known as “The Sparkle Twins” in the 1977 hockey movie. The Chiefs, a hapless minor league hockey team, changed their losing ways and started playing Old Time Hockey following the acquisition of three siblings known as the Hanson Brothers. Paul Newman and Michael Ontkean starred in this ribald and uproarious film, which remains a part of hockey folklore today. The Philadelphia Phantoms will be holding a Silent Auction on the concourse during the game. Paul D’Amato, who played Syracuse Bulldogs center Tim “Dr. Hook” McCracken and Mark Bousquet (Andre “Poodle” Lussier) are scheduled to be on hand to as part of the silent auction, which includes autographed Phantoms and Philadelphia Flyers items, Phantoms ticket packages, as well as Charlestown Chiefs t-shirts, jerseys, photos and pucks.
