Partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 70's met about 200 runners for the start of the Seafood 5 Mile Run. This annual run takes place on the streets and boardwalk of Point Pleasant Beach and is held on the third Saturday of September every year. The Seafood 5 Mile Run takes place the same weekend as the Festival of the Sea Block Party in downtown Point Pleasant Beach.
This year's race winner was Bob Horn with a time of 29:07. Kevin Gaines was second with a time of 30:53, and Tom Zara was third with a time of 31:11. Dianne D'Olivera was the first female to cross the finish line with a time of 32:51. Dianne was followed by Kim Daly at 35:13, and Adele McDonough at 36:09. Chris White was the first Clydesdale to finish the race.
A One Mile Fun Run preceded the 5 Mile Run. Kenny Walsh was the winner of the One Mile Fun Run. Kenny was followed by Eva Wimberley and Joe Benson.
This was the third of three races held this year to benefit the Point Pleasant Lions Club. A 5-kilometer run was held in Point Pleasant Beach the day before Mothers Day, and a 5 mile run was held in Point Pleasant Boro on Fathers Day.
