By Bob Beatrice The championship series for the SJGSA Junior American Division, pitted top ranked Haddon Twp. (16-0) against Pennsauken (13-3-1). Game 1 was in Haddon Twp. The home team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on walks by Alisha Davy and Lindsay Gilligan, and a throwing error. Haddon Twp. starting pitcher Aileen Fallon kept Pennsauken off the bases until the 4th inning. Ashley Keich walked, Annie Bilinsky singled and Vanna Wortham walked to load the bases with 2 outs. Christina Tofani then laced a 2-run single up the middle to tie it at 2-2. Pennsauken's offense did more damage in the 6th. Randi Beatrice stated with a single. After a walk to Bilinsky, Wortham hit a 2-run triple. After a strike out, Krystal Wilhelm walked. Stephanie Sylvia singled home Wortham and Krissy Rup singled home Wilhelm to put Pennsauken up 6-2. Haddon Twp. added 1 in the bottom of the 6th when Tracy Golub scored on a Caitlin McComb single. Both teams went down easily in the 7th, putting the final score at 6-3. Pennsauken pitcher Stephanie Sylvia struck out 11, allowing only 2 singles to pick up the victory. Game 2 of this best of three will be tomorrow at Pennsauken. Game 3 (if necessary) is Sunday, 5 pm in Haddon Twp.
