South Jersey Softball: Thursday, June 3, 1999
By Bob Beatrice Runnemede came to Pennsauken looking to pull an upset in the SJGSA 13-15 Junior American Division. Runnemede scored 2 in the first on singles by Stephanie McWilliams and Jennifer McDaniels, but Pennsauken responded by scoring 4 in the bottom of the first. Randi Beatrice had an RBI single and stole home. Krystal Wilhelm added a 2-run single. Runnemede scored an unearned run in the 3rd to cut the score to 4-3. Pennsauken scored 2 in the 3rd and 5 more in the 4th to take an 11-3 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Pennsauken scored 2 more, the game winner an RBI single by Nikki Veitz. The final score was 13-3. Ashley Keich, Vanna Wortham, Krissy Rup and Kristen Green all scored 2 runs. Randi Beatrice was 3 for 3, scored 3 runs, had 2 RBIs and stole 2 bases. Krystal Wilhelm was 2 for 2 with a walk and 4 RBIs. She also played outstanding behind the plate, throwing out 2 would be base stealers. Jessica Martino pitched a complete game for her 3rd win. She struck out 6 and allowed only 4 hits. Once again, the Pennsauken defense was outstanding. Pennsauken is now 7-1. They play Sunday June 6 at Washington Twp. The next home game is Tuesday, June 8 against Haddon Twp. Pennsauken hopes to pay back the only team to beat them so far this season.
