South Jersey Softball: Thursday, April 22, 1999
By Boog Williams The softball gods must have been waiting for this day to come. It was a beautiful day, with the temperature in the 70's and the sun shining. The game is in a girl's instructional softball league. Most of these players are playing softball for the first time. All girls are the ages of 7 or 8. The girls pitch, and balls and strikes are called by an umpire, but they cannot walk a run home. If the bases are loaded and the pitcher throws 4 balls, the coach of the batting team comes out and pitches to her/his player. The batter can get a hit, make an out, or strike out. There is a maximum of 5 runs per inning rule. This first game saw the Clementon #1 Wildthings vs. Berlin Township #2 at field #6 in Berlin Borough. The Wildthings won the game, but all the players had a lot of fun. That is what this league is designed for. The other teams that make up the league are Berlin Township #1, Berlin Borough #1 and #2, and Clementon #2. The rest of the season will be played on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The schedule for the Berlin Township team #2 is as follows:
