South Jersey Softball: Saturday, June 10, 2000
By Jackie Foster On Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 pm under the lights, the Berlin Township Red Raiders came up against a very tough competitor in the Berlin Borough Blue Marlins. The first inning the Marlins came out swinging with a triple hit by Andrea D. they went ahead 4 to 3. Andrea also did a great job at third base. Berlin Township girls did not get discouraged as they kept up the pressure. The eight years olds really hung in there with doubles hit by Meghan W., Sam L., Michelle F. and Michelle T. Also a hard line drive double hit by Nicole E. to knock in two more runs. Pitcher Kim M. started the game for Berlin Township and after the first inning managed to keep the Marlins down to only 2 more runs. Olivia R. made several great plays. Danyelle L. came in to finish the game, keeping the Raiders in the lead for the rest of the game. The Raiders really played like a team. It was a great game, the Marlins never gave up, they hung in there to the end, scoring 3 runs in the last inning, but it wasn't enough. The Red Raiders finished their season with a 14 - 11 victory.
