South Jersey Softball: Sunday, April 16, 2000
By Boog Williams The bad weather postponed the Saturday opening game of the girl's softball league until Sunday at 12:30 pm. It didn't look like the game was going to be played, based on the way the weather was in the morning, but the sun came out and the kids had a lot of fun. The field was dry and in good shape, thanks to the coaches and parents that helped rake the field. Berlin Township has two teams in the league that consists of Berlin Boro, Clementon, Lindenwold, and two new teams, Waterford and Winslow. Berlin Township's two teams are sponsored by C&M Auto Repairs and GPS Plumbing. By the first pitch, the sun was shining and the weather was warm as C&M Auto Repairs, the Red team, took the field to play GPS Plumbing, the Blue team. The first inning ended with neither team scoring. The game went back and forth. At the end of the fifth inning the score was GPS 7 - C&M 5. At the end of the sixth inning the score was GPS 7 - C&M 10. The C&M team scored the maximum runs of 5 in an inning. In the top of the seventh inning, the GPS team scored 6 runs to take a 12-10 lead. In the bottom of the inning, the C&M team had a rally going, but fell short with bases loaded and one out to try to score the tying or winning run. The kids were having fun playing against their friends and they played a great game. Photos by Boog Williams
