South Jersey Soccer: Sunday, March 5, 2000
By Jerry Amari Vineland's U-14 boys traveling soccer team opened its spring season by hosting Delran this past weekend, and came away with a 2 to 2 tie. Delran, which went undefeated in the fall and beat the Spectre 1 to 0 last year, took an early 2 to 0 lead. However, a late first half goal by Martino Lasalandra cut the Demons lead to 2 to 1 at the half. In the second half, the Spectre dominated the attack, out shooting Delran by a 12 to 1 margin. Vineland was able to score with two minutes left in the contest, as Alfie Latorre punched in a missed shot by Dereck Knowles to secure the tie. Vineland's defense played outstanding as Russell Traina and Jared Mc Clain shut down the Demons. Goalie Chris Nettle put in a strong showing despite a blustery wind throughout the game.
